Yesterday's thread: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/3-25-max-amps-288-update.212374/ Wooow, did we have a sicky boy last night. Stopped eating and drinking yesterday afternoon, got nauseous in the evening and it all spiraled from there. He was up all night with diarrhea, vomiting, howling, drooling. Super nauseous, I could tell. Couldn't keep any meds down him though, so not much I could do to help. I'm suspecting a bad pancreatitis flare. Fingers crossed that's all it is and not something that can't be treated. Called my vet as soon as they opened and dropped him off. I'm hoping they'll give him some injections for nausea, diarrhea and pain so we can at least get on top of this and I can maintain him with the stuff I have at home. I'm stuck at the courthouse all day for jury duty (have to be here by law) so there's no way I can be home with him today. I'm super grateful the vet will be taking care of him for me. I'll update you guys as soon as I have some more information.
Hope it's only a p'titis flare. Stick up on stuff at home. It seems each time they flare it takes longer to resolve.
I've got several tablets of Cerenia left (and each tab gets quartered) and a whole bottle of Bupe coming. I'm guessing the vet will give me some Metronidazole to take home as well.
Get some ondansteron and fluids if you can give subq to her. It does help. Don't forget different kinds of food to keep him eating. Vet should have a/d critical care. Kitties seem to like it when they are sick. Mixes easy to syringe feed if you have too. High carb but eating is important during a flare.
Cerenia works really well for him when he can keep it down. I'm hoping an injection will help us get on top of that. He normally eats and drinks really well, even when sick so I think as soon as he's not so nauseous and in pain he'll be eating and drinking again. Tried a variety of foods last night...he just wasn't having any of it, not even his favorite broths.
Vet patched Max up. Gave him some Zofran and something for stomach acid, also some IV fluids. Max just ate a bit of food here at home and had a good pee. Got a ketone test. Is this trace?? I see a small spot of pink. What do I do about ketones?
How long did you let it sit, gets darker after 15 seconds. I think it looks negative from photo, more tan than pink. Check again if you can. Fluids for trace ketones, if vet gave fluids that is good, if they did labs, they may have checked too..
That's OK - you took pic just a couple of secs after 15. It's also the light - it has a pink cast to it.
Getting Max another abdominal ultrasound done tomorrow. My vet clinic is looking into getting an ultrasound machine and they just happen to have one coming in tomorrow to test and my vet said they can use Max as their trial patient for free!
How nice. That was my circumstance many years ago. Practice got a digital xray, so tested in my kitty, found out cat at time had only 1 working kidney and a stone in that urethra yet blood work was fine and she was passing urine
Do you have a ketone meter? If not, this is a really good deal! https://www.adwdiabetes.com/product/20784/free-nova-max-glucose-ketone-meter
Thanks guys. I'm getting some low BG numbers tonight?? Hmm, hope he surfs safely. He's eating and drinking normally again. I was hoping to get some sleep tonight!
