    Good morning

    Previous tread http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/4-21-willow-pmps-601bg-3-371bg.156591/

I changed to the new meter this morning Relion Micro, the cost on the other one was a little too much!
Here is a photo of her wet food
We left only a little amount of food for her last night and of course she ate it in the morning and not at night. So I got up and checked her 20 minutes early gave her her shot 15 minutes early.
Thank you again from everyone for such great support.

    Hi James,
The foods look just fine. Rusty particularly likes the Turkey & Giblets classic.
I know that you will love the Relion Micro. I've been using this meter (and it's clone: the Arkray Glucocard 01 Mini) for years. It is very reliable.

Have a good weekend. And good luck with the Relion.

I like how you made it very clear on the SS that you had switched meters. :)

Looks like a little less black on this dose - that's great. C'mon Willow. Let's see some yellow on that spreadsheet!

I don't know what are your relationships with your vet, or if you have a competent vet in diabetes, but in my point of view, it would be good now to have the advise of a professional. The transition to human meter will of course give you smaller numbers, but it will not change the reality.
When I see such a numbers of black figures, such a numbers of comments with the word "vomiting" in your SS, I start to be really worried.
If your vet isn't a "specialist" in feline diabetes, maybe it's time to find a good one.
    That's just my opinion.

I think she's in a bounce today from the blue number yesterday.

I agree with Tricia - thanks for putting the nice line in there to show you've changed meters.

Is she acting sick at all? The daily vomiting is concerning. Are any of these hairballs, or are they all the white foamy stuff? If it's the white foamy stuff, many people here report that their cat will vomit that up if their stomach is empty for too long. If it's happening at a consistent time of day, giving her a snack an hour or two before that might stop the vomiting.

If it's hairballs, then some butter can help those just go through instead of being vomited.

If it's real vomit, then I agree that you might need to consult with your vet about what's causing it.

Have you read the Primer on Pancreatitis? P-titis is common in diabetic cats and it can cause vomiting. Take a look at that and see if that describes what you're seeing with Willow.

Any luck finding a new vet yet?

Good job getting the ketone tests in! That's important.

    Thanks
    She hit yellow!
    Question.
When we ran a week long side by side test between the meters the numbers were so different. A few times there was a 100bg difference then there was only a few points difference. We were like what the heck? How could there be suck a large difference between them.

    Hi
She only does it when she has not ate during the night and only when her numbers are really high in the 550+bg range.
It's is always the same time when she does this 5-6am

Just to illustrate my idea : yesterday morning, my cat was eating a lot of herb.
Of course, just after, he vomited a mix of water and herb, like any cat trying to evacuate haiballs.
He did this at least 3 or 4 times in the morning, and he refused to eat anything.
so I decided to bring him to the vet.
And after a lot of tests, the diagnosis of pancreatitis was confirmed!
This kind of illness can create insulin resistance.

    Hi
Question. When your cat was vomiting was it a lot and more then a few times a day/ week?

One of the times I noticed tonight it Willow is cleaning herself and her back feet have a large amount of cat littler stuck to them and between her toes. This is due to the amount of peeing she does daily.
we clean the two litter boxes daily. Yet because the amount she pees the letter is wet and pasty.
I'm wondering if the littler is making her vomit.
Again the only time she vomits is in the morning and normally when she has high numbers.
If she keeps doing it I'll call the bet to run her for test.
I uploaded her complete medical records on here

During the night from Thursday to Friday, he vomited his meal directly on the auto feeder, just as he often does when he eats too quickly.
He was also eating a lot of herb as cats do when they want to purge themselves.
Of course, just after having eat herb, he vomits a foam of water and herb.
He only did this during the night from Thursday to Friday, and Friday morning.

    Hi,

Willow only vomits in the early morning. Never food, just the white pasty stuff, a few other people said their cats do the same thing and this could be caused by the acids in their stomach when there's no food. Now that her numbers are lower if she keeps doing it I'll take her in and get checked.
What is interesting with her is I'm getting to know by the way she acts if she is not feeling well or has a problem.
Such as when she is in low numbers she washes her self a lot. When her numbers are high she does not do any grooming and I'll have food stuck to her face and head.

James, if you see litter stuck to her, you need to clean it off before she ingests it. If you use clumping litter and she ingests it, it will cause a blockage in her intestines, which could be fatal.

Yes, there is a difference between vet and human meters. It starts as next to nothing when the BG is low - 50-90 or so, and increases incrementally as the BGs rise. When the BGs are up in the 300s or higher, the difference can easily be 100 pts or more. That's why we advise people to pick one meter and stick to it - don't switch back and forth.

    Hi
Yes I cleaned the litter off her feet. I noticed she had a lot stuck to her feet yesterday and was helping her remove it. The stuff is nasty sticky goo!

The only reason we changed meter was do to the cost. The other meter test strips after shipping was around $1.40 per strip. With me testing her 6-8 times a day over a month added up fast. The new meter my wife loves. And I'll love it because the strips are way cheaper.

Did you read my post on her AMPS number?
She is 196bg. Do I still give a full 3.5 with her being below 200?

Sorry, James. I am on the West Coast, so I wasn't awake when you asked about your AM dose. Looks like you did shoot the 3.5. I would have done the same thing.

I had the same problem with Cinco - getting litter on his feet. It's because he walked in his pee. How big is your litter box? Maybe she needs a bigger one so she has more room to move around?
