Good morning!

If every weekend we worked as hard as we are this weekend, I would have a better appreciation of Mondays.

Zoey has been in some good, worry-free numbers (very thankful for that) until last night and today. Looking back through her ss, I see that she goes up when she's constipated and goes longer between BMs. I had given her Miralax yesterday afternoon; a few hours later she had another petechiae burst on her stomach - pretty big patch. I don't know if it's related, but it's the only thing different and she had been clearing up quite nicely. I added some pumpkin to her food this morning and she's subsequently had a BM. If the observation holds any merit, then I'm expecting her numbers to improve rapidly today. For that reason, I haven't asked about increasing the insulin even though this is the 9th cycle since her last green. If we don't see green today, I'm thinking it's time to increase her insulin in the a.m. to 4.25?

Thank you for the tips @Chris & China and @manxcat419 about labeling the food cans; your experience and thoughts are always welcome and valued.

OT: Busy day ahead. Finishing up the fence and painting the porches, 100 pages of transcripts to proof by tomorrow morning (may be on the computer late tonight), and a family cookout this afternoon. Sure do wish we could clone ourselves sometimes.

Hope you all have a beautiful and peaceful day (or productive if you can't relax either). Healing vines to all...

Last post: Day before yesterday (24th)

I should know she's going to disprove any kind of thought I might have as soon as I put it out there. :/

Would you mind checking her SS and see if there's anything that I'm missing? These red numbers seem awfully high for a bounce so I really don't know what's going on. Don't think it's the poo issue so should we go ahead and increase .25 tonight?

If she has frequent problems with constipation, you might give the Miralax daily.

See also Feline Constipation for tons of great info on the feline GI tract, how it works, and options for when it doesn't.

I've got the Feline Constipation site bookmarked and have read through it a few times since this started. Zoey was doing really well with her BM up until about last week and she has seemed a little dehydrated and impacted. We've given her sub-q fluids today; she had the Miralax yesterday afternoon, the petechiae patch broke out on her again, we switched to pumpkin this morning, massaged the GI tract and she had a bowel movement today of a good size. We were definitely expecting her numbers to go down if her rise was due to being dehydrated and constipated. Apparently it is not. The pumpkin is not pie filling and I've went over her foods to see if I've missed anything and I can't find it if I did. She's eating Friskie's Special Diet Turkey pate, poached chicken as treats (no skin/fat added), and her enzymes (which do raise her BG) were cut in half and she was using them at the same dose when she was hitting greens a few days ago ... so what am I missing? All of her meds/supplements are the same that she's been on for a few weeks now. I've only assumed over the last few days that perhaps I had fed her from the wrong can as we watched the numbers creep up, but maybe I didn't and it was starting to rise a few days ago. She's eating fine, walking with the same gait and issues that's been there for weeks -- no outward signs of anything new (other than the petechiae burst that's dissolving now).

I've got lots of pennies to pass out today....

It is possible that it's a bounce off the 153 last night...her numbers have pretty much gone straight up since then

Have to also ask the usual questions...is there ANY chance she got into any contraband? If there's contraband in the house, our sugarcats have an impressive way of finding it

If you think the Miralax might be causing the problems with petechiae, I'd do the same thing and try just the pumpkin for awhile...just make sure there's no sugar in the pumpkin

As for dose, I think you could go up to 4.25 tonight if she doesn't do anything crazy before then but let's see if there's any other opinions out there

@Chris & China .. we were posting at the same time. :) ...where there's a will, there's a way -- and she's a pretty willful cat -- but I honestly don't believe that she's been in contact with any kibble, be it fresh or regurgitated. Is it possible? Sure, with her, anything's possible. I will crate her tonight when we're not with her and aware of her every twitch, so if she has a honey hole somewhere with contraband in it, she won't be able to get to it this evening. I've been giving her organic coconut oil (nothing new and have been giving it to her daily for many weeks) but I just switched brands on Friday so maybe there's something there that's not labeled - label looks good though. I'll eliminate that this evening after shot, as well.

We had a member here who was 1000% sure her sugarcat wasn't getting into any dry food. She kept it in a closet, monitored the bowls and had the dry food "up" where the sugarcat couldn't jump.

One day she finally just got the dry completely out of the house.....in the next 36 hours or so, they went from 5.5U to OTJ

You're totally right..where there's a will, there's a way!!...LOL

I'm always a little suspicious when I see an unexplained black on the SS. On the morning of the 24th she was black, and there was only the PMPS test on the night of the 23rd. I wonder if she went lower that night. She looked like she might have been resolving a bounce leading up to that. She's sure shown she can go green to black in one cycle. Just before that she was getting into the 60's on this dose. I might wait until I know for sure that she's resolved this possible bounce before increasing.

Double check that the chicken you are cooking for her is not brined (which means a soak in water, salt and sugar!).

@Wendy&Neko ... thank you for pointing out the ss. I don't know how I missed leaving out a bunch of checks, but I've filled them in now. I NEVER go to bed in the p.m. without checking her for the same reason you mentioned ... black to green in one cycle. Chicken thighs, nothing added. Cooked them a few weeks ago and had them frozen so it's stuff she's been eating without issues before.

I don't mind waiting because I am really at a loss and I know how fast she can go from black to green and tonight I will probably saw a forest of trees when my head hits the pillows.

Yeah I saw that and deleted my post...you're fast!....LOL

I do have a question for you though...You say you're giving "1 unit IV fluids"......I don't think you mean 1 Unit......Units are used in insulin...IV fluids are usually measured in milliliters or CC's

Ahh, that looks more like it. So now we know she only got down to blues when that last bounce resolved. I think you could go up .25U, but I might wait until tomorrow morning. Two reasons, one - I prefer monitoring during the day, but more importantly, sometimes kitties (like the sneaky black and white in my house), have been known to go high before they dive low.

It's useful to mark on your SS when you give the fluids. For some cats, fluids can cause the BG to drop.

Yeah, I should probably figure out what the proper terminology/measurement on that is. On the Ringer's bag, there are ten (my word) units. So, I gave her whatever that 1 unit measurement is. (10 mls, maybe???)

Yes, exactly. It's a one liter bag so 100ml would be the correct recording. I will change those on the SS tonight; the last few weeks I've been marking when she receives them sub-q so if there is a pattern we'd see it. The vet told us to give her fluids as needed, no more than the "one unit/100ml" and as little as half that amount. I've made sure to give her fluids like when we give her the flea medicine and when she's showing signs of dehydration (skin pinch or lack of BM). She had fluids as recently as this morning because of her papery skin and her lack of BM.

Thank you both for the input. I will plan to do a .25 increase in the morning unless she high dives into green waters tonight. :cat:
