R day!
Pink!!!!!!!!

How often do I use R ?
After it wears off do I expect higher numbers?
Today's first shot went well!
He is feeling better today!

Copied from yesterday's post: You can give the Lantus and his breakfast to make sure he's eating, and then give the R in a slightly different location (like give the Lantus on the Left and the R on the Right).

Done, and he's eaten

What we're trying for is a maximum lowering of 100 points during the R cycle. So, hoping to see some pinks today, that the Lantus can better work with after the R wears off.

That sounds great, what do I do next, when do I test again? This is the scary part.

Your next test will be at +1. And then again at +2, +3, and +4 and we'll see how it goes from there.

Go Biscuits!!!

Good luck!!!! Great start of the day so let’s hope we will see some pink.

Remember, Sandy, that we want to slow the dose increases down now to after every six cycles since we are using R.

Thank you, Dyana! You rock!!!!

Will check back tonight but I hope this is a great day for Biscuits!

Yay, Pink!
Now perhaps, if he goes down another 50 points by the end of the R cycle, he may get to yellow once the Lantus takes over the job.

This might help a bit. Just like when you started Lantus, you did curves to figure how how Biscuits was responding. You do the same with R, especially given how fast it can work. R's duration is around 4 hours -- you want to get a test at least every hour as you're just learning how well Biscuits and R get along. Fundamentally, R is both fast and harsh so it can drop numbers quickly. This being the case, the reason for testing hourly is to keep your kitty safe.

Lantus, on the other hand, is neither fast nor harsh. It's got a long duration and isn't particularly potent. These are the trade offs between a depot-type of insulin and faster acting types of insulin. Ideally, R lowers the numbers earlier in the cycle so, as Dyana noted, the Lantus can "latch on" and begin to gently lower the numbers.

Lots of people feed their diabetic cats multiple meals throughout the day.

For poking rewards, you could also give him all meat treats like a piece of chicken (no spices) or J.D.'s favorite was a cut up cooked shrimp or some sliced up steak cooked with no spices. Also the freeze dried 100% meat treats are good, and all of the above have no extra carbs.

So, I'm so happy you saw pink today! Hopefully the Lantus can keep him in pink for the rest of the day.

Nice and easy, Biscuit.

Are we done until pmps?
Thanks so very much. I feel soooo much better knowing the numbers can go down!

I can make it to lunch with my friends if I'm done testing for now
I'm guessing since it's not dropped a lot , he's ok till pmps.
Let me know if I need to do it before pmps
Thanks

You can leave and have a nice lunch with your friends. Maybe just get an out the door test to see if the Lantus is working on the BGs.
If you want to try R again tonight, change your Subject Line that you would like some guidance and I will put the word out too. Unfortunately, I can not stay up tonight as I have to work tomorrow.

Should I do R again tonight?

Nice pinkies today.

In regards to name, the avatar name confused me. Since kitty is Biscuit I thought you were Molly. Forgive me for using wrong name.

In regards to R tonight, can you do a +11 and post it? If we are seeing some Lantus action for the cycle after R, I wouldn’t do R tonight. If not, why not. As long as you can monitor like today, and your supplies, ie Plenty of test strips and high carb food or honey/Karo. Not that I am expecting you to need it, it one day. Be prepared.

Looks like a fine night for R if you are up for it. I would do the same R dose of 0.25 units and the same testing schedule. I will be on and off tonight, out doing gardening but will check in at least hourly.

.
I'd like to wait for morning if it's ok. Feeling a little nervous to do it tonight. Will you be available Tomorrow

Sandie, you might ant to look at Black Kitty’s spreadsheet both as an example of R, and also a tab for the R scales I mentioned. BK just had IAA, and ECID so the actual scale numbers are not relevant, but the idea is.

Are you worried you won’t be able to stay awake till +4?

Sometimes the job of R is to limit how high a bounce goes. Biscuit could be bouncing from those pinks today.
