Thanks Lori and Carla. The wacky numbers continue. After reading what was said about meters I'm going to use up my strips and then decide what meter to try next. I'll take all tests with skepticism. Knowing the real numbers are likely higher and get a fructosamine with the next set of labs.

That +2 could just be a food spike. Even if Max never did that in the past, you know how these kitties love to change these things up. Trix used to change her patterns on a regular basis, with no rhyme or reason that I could figure. Looks like he settled in to a lovely surf. Have a great evening, Elise!

Hi Amy. Max does get food spikes but I know I shouldn't do it but I double checked with the Arkray and got a much lower number. I get one was 20% high and the other 20% low. I'm done double checking unless I get a number under 50. Thanks.

Elise, I can sense your frustration, which is totally understandable. I hope you find a meter soon that you're comfortable with. Until then, sending "serenity now" vines your way.

Ignoring that +2, Max has had a fantastic day.

I don't mind the +2 at all. I just don't think he really was at 66 at +3 and that is where the frustration comes from. I never got such conflicting numbers before and I've been at this for a long time. The changes in the human meters is what bothers me. I now don't feel that he is nearly as tightly controlled as I thought. Just disappointed. That's all.

Max looks good today! a thought..until you can use up all those strips you have for the meter..you could get another meter of the same kind, in case it is the meter. I hope you get it sorted out, and are able to get a little peace of mind about it. I do agree that it is frustrating to get such differing numbers though. Til then..:bighug:

I like Laura's idea of getting a new Relion meter to see if that gives you some peace of mind. It seems like a fresh start with a new meter might help you feel the tests are at least consistent and accurate within that specific meter. I'm sorry that it's frustrating you. We do the best with the tools we have and in a lot of cases, regulation with a human meter is the only viable option; I know it is for me. I like the idea of getting more regular fructosamines and it's good to know the changes in the world of BG meter regulation so we can make informed choices like getting them when people thought it wasn't necessary before. I hope you're feeling less frustrated soon. :bighug:

Hi Elise. Sorry to hear that your meters are giving you trouble. This is only anecdotal, but our vet had me borrow an AlphaTrak to compare some tests. At numbers above 200, it was pretty off from my ReliOn, maybe by 40-60 points. But I got one test where the ReliOn said 52 and the AlphaTrak said 68 on the dot. I had another where the ReliOn said 72 and the AlphaTrak said 100. It seemed like in lower numbers where Max likes to hang out, the meter comparisons matched the way we'd expect them to. Maybe your vet would loan you an AlphaTrak and some strips to compare? Sending vines for your mom.

I'm sorry you're so frustrated, but Max is looking good. This looks like his typical pattern, so even if the numbers are not strictly accurate, they make sense. Please don't drive yourself crazy over something you may not be able sort out! Sending lots of good vines.
