Soooo...the last couple days, Trix has had a couple "pee over the edge of the box" incidents, which naturally had my attention (making it all the way into the box probably about 85% of the time). But we needed to get at least 7 days past her last dose of Zeniquin before we could really do anything with regards to going to the vet, basically because the AB had to completely clear her system for any labs to be accurate. I was hoping against hope that her Adequan shot yesterday would be the answer - that she wasn't quite making it in the box because of her arthritis.

Unfortunately, that was not the case. Late last night she once again peed over the edge, and this time there was some blood in it. This is the first time she's had visible blood in these "over the edge" pees. Needless to say, we are off to the vetty this morning - her appointment is at 10:40EST. We are now 9 days past her last dose of Zeniquin, so we should be good for running labs and a C&S...doing this in the right order this time (last time was my fault, starting the AB before running a C&S). And, this fits the recent profile of things starting to flare about a week after stopping an AB. Obviously Zeniquin is not the right drug for whatever is going on - it seems to knock this thing back, but not knock it completely out.

She does also seem to have post-urination discomfort.

And last night her BG was 140! Yikes, I almost had a stroke....but obviously that was a huge red flag. She has been solid blue now for 6 days...starting with the blues shortly after ending the AB - also a consistent pattern with how this year has gone.

At the same time, though, her appy is pretty darned happy and she's being social and outgoing, although she did seem a bit "droopy" to me yesterday.

I am bummed because our regular vetty, who knows Trix so very well, is booked solid today, so we have to see someone else. All the vets at the practice our good, but I feel "safe" with our regular vet. I have barely slept again the last 2 nights. Trix and this bean need a break....

I'll update when we get back. Prayers to all....

Amy

We're back...of course, though, I don't have any real news just yet. It had been 3 hours since she peed when we got to the vet's, so I made sure they drew urine first thing so we wouldn't miss the opportunity. Got it - phew! Now we wait...urinalysis results will be in tomorrow; culture in 3-5 days. Basic exam didn't reveal anything unusual or unexpected, although she did seem extra-fidgety to me - I'm guessing because it wasn't comfortable being palpated.

We started her on Simplicef since she has done well on this AB in the past, and of course this may change depending on what the culture shows. I gave her the first dose as soon as we got home (after she had a snack).

I'd never met this vet before, but I really liked her...she took her time and was very thorough and thoughtful. Of course, though, she was pregnant....I've lost a number of vets at this practice to pregnancies. For now, though, she's a good back-up if our regular vet isn't available.

Sadly we've become too famous at the practice...I'd never met this vet before, yet she was so familiar with our name because of all the paperwork that flies around the office about us :eek::eek:...not something I care to be well-known for at all.

Gotta (try to) get some work done now...

Hi Amy,
I'm glad you liked the new vet and we are sending a bouquet of beautiful healing vines for Trixie to get rid of whatever the infection is.

Hugs to you, scritches to the kitties

I always hated to see a vet other than my primary, but in time I got well acquainted with the associates, and they both are now just fine. Still see the primary when I can, though.

I'm sorry Trixie is adding to your stress level. I hope a new antibiotic will kick this thing for good. Sending healing vines.

:bighug:

I hope Trixie starts feeling better soon. I also know what its like to be the person with the most files at my vet thanks to my 9 kitties. Yes, 9! I run a cat house and I am the madam! :D
Wow...that's a lotta kitties! We had 6 for a long time; right now we have 4. I miss having 6, but at the same time it was very expensive and very stressful (since I am a hardcore worrywort!)....

I can't even imagine how thick our file actually is....this year alone has been absurd, and we're not done yet. Noah still needs to go in for a check up and Zen and Frankie both need dentals (Noah probably will, too) and of course Frankie needs to go in for regular labs now, too, since she's HyperT.......

They finally started splitting up the cats in my files once we got to the third volume - two cats in one file, two cats in the other. I had to do the same at home - I kept everything in a binder, but in the end I had three binders - one for Minka and Kisa, one for Sasha and Harvey, and one for Cinco. Three inch binders, full. I think we can all relate! ;)

For a while my vet had another vet working with him. At the time I had a kitty Snickers who had CKD. The new vet said to me just in passing "oh well she might have diabetes (and when my eyes opened wide) it's not a big deal just a couple of shots each day".
Yup and that was before I had a cat with FD.

Sending some feel-better vines to Miss Trixie; let's hope the a/bs do their job! At one point with Snickers I think I tried 4 before I found one that worked that she didn't have a bad reaction to.

Well that PMBG is much more Trixie-like :D...not sure of ABs can work THAT fast, but I'll take the green anyway. Happy appy for first din-dins, but she did have an uncomfortable pee before-hand...made it to the box OK, but stopped and stood for a good 30 seconds as soon as she stepped out of the box. She did recover pretty quickly though - but of course who knows how much she's covering-up since kitties are masters of disguise...

How nice her PMBG is looking good I hope this AB works,

I can totally relate to you in this one, even before FD, the receptionists even recognizes my voice when I call, and not only because of Babu, I actually have 4 binders, all of them really thick (Babu, civies Misha and Padme and Milka my dog) some how none of them turned out to be very healthy;)
