Yesterday's Meltdown

ARGH!!! Cinco is being such a bad boy. He's playing hookey from his Deputy LagoonMeister duties. I told him Rusty might fire him if he doesn't show up for work more consistently. DH is getting an itchy trigger finger, but I told him to hold off, since Cinco did a drive by of the lagoon last night. Don't know how long I can hold him off....

I thought I was so clever in my solution to his litter box issue (with the big cone on, he was having trouble getting over the high sides of his box). I took a sturdy box about 2 inches high, put a pee pad over it, and set it in front of the box so he could use it like a step. From the evidence in the box this morning, he figured it out and it worked just fine. Then this afternoon I caught him with his front paws on the step, his head on the edge of the box, and his back legs on the floor, peeing!

:banghead::banghead::banghead: So now I've added a second litter box, with lower sides, next to the big litter box, and pee pads all over the floor. The problem with the lower boxes is he is so big he usually can't get far enough into the box to keep his deposit from going over the edge. I'm not sure there will be any hair left on my head once he stops pulling his out!!

Minka made all better this morning. She CPCd her breakfast and asked for more!!!!!!!! She had a nice big snack at fluids time, too!

I don't have any idea why she's feeling so much better, but I am delighted. I am not going to let myself get too excited, though, because I know she could be not eating again tomorrow. Paws crossed and anti-jinx and knock on wood!

Sasha's still got that iffy appy. I keep finding her sitting on the chair in the bathroom where we do her steam treatments, so I turn the vaporizer on. Sometimes she stays in there, and sometimes she doesn't. I'm thinking I should put her back to 1/2 Pred every day - currently she's on every other, but the vet said I could go back up if I thought she needed it.

Harvey ate well today and even climbed into my lap before I started looking for him to give him his pills! He does that every now and then, and I LOVE it! So much easier than chasing him down and tackling him.

Well, time to go fix a dinner that the kitties may or may not eat. Hope everyone is having a wonderful Caturday.

Deepest sympathies to BJM on Gracie's crossing. :(

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans, especially Carla & Callie and Georgia & Simon. :bighug: Special prayers for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, DH and DGD, Marje's DM, Chris' DM and Elise's DM.

Hope the kitties ate their dinner(s). Always a guessing game. So, cats. Take the guesswork out of it and EAT! Always. Or at least most of the time.

And Cinco....someone's getting itchy finger. You know what you need to do. So. Do it!

Oh, gotta add. Harvey. What a good boy!

Hey Cinco!! It was a good day at the lagoon! Where were you?? Sleeping on the job again, huh? Come on down and pull your weight ~ China

Nice to hear the kitties are eating!!..kinda...mostly...somewhat....Sure hope it continues and Sasha takes after Minka and decides to eat more of her food too!

Cinco...better get back on track soon buddy....Sounds like there's a pretty bad case of ITF going on there!

I have to see a photo of the LB train please!!!
Glad you are having some success with food.
Sending apply vines to all four kitties, and pee in the LB vines to Cinco. Poor darling, he probably thinks he is doing the right thing!

Thanks for stopping in, Marilyn, Elise, Chris and Bron.

We went to Sacramento for dinner and cards with friends - last minute decision, but figured Cinco wasn't gonna do anything exciting. Nonetheless, I made sure we came home an hour or so before we usually do, and I was rewarded by catching Cinco in the lagoon! :D He was apparently in the process of climbing out, but DH's finger will be a little less itchy, at least for now. He had not tried out the new lb arrangement, but decided to go while I was there to see. I quickly realized the second lb needed to be rotated 90 degrees, as I had to nudge his butt a little further into the box, but it worked out and after he exited I made the change. I also moved a few other things out of the area, as he didn't have enough room to turn around with getting his collar caught. Hopefully he'll negotiate it successfully on his own next time.

Minka had eaten all but about a bite of the dinner we'd left her, and Sasha maybe half. I gave them both more when we got home and Minka again ate all hers :):) while Sasha ate about 1/3. I added lots of FD salmon to Sasha's and she ended up cleaning up most of it.

Harvey didn't care for tonight's dinner entree, so I served him some out of a leftover can from earlier, and Mr. Picky CPCd it! Go figure!

I am unwinding after the drive home. Everyone has been fed and hydrated and medicated, except for Harvey, and he keeps circling my chair, so I'm hoping he'll put himself in my lap shortly and save me the trouble of grabbing him.

Thanks again for all the vines and good thoughts. We'll take all the help we can get!

I can see you are well organised for all eventualities with those LBs!:joyful:
Poor Cinco has an uphill battle poor dear with blindness and now the collar and trying to negotiate LB city!
Sounds like he is managing it all well though. What a sweetie. I hope the Aloa Vera cream works well. I have a plant in my garden and I use it if I get a burn or similar. I just break off a bit of the thick juicy leaf/ stem and rub it on the burn and it works wonders.

I have the gel because I was rubbing it on Sasha where she had skin irritation from the radiation. It seemed to help her. Cinco was not enthused about having it rubbed on his hot spots, but I did it anyway.

I tagged you in Tahn's condo. What do you use in place of Neosporin with Pain Relief? Also, where do you buy syringes with .5 unit markings?

It's nice to see Cinco dip into the lagoon. I hope he heads back soon. I hope all the kitties continue to eat for you. Poor Cinco trying to get in the lb with the collar on. That's a very creative solution.

I have never used ear ointment up until now. But Rhiannon sent me some from the U.S. the other day as Sheba's ears have taken a beating lately with all the testing.
Also we don't have any .5 unit marked syringes, only one unit ones...pathetic isn't it. I just use the one unit and eyeball the dose.
Thanks so much for helping with all that. I was so thankful when you posted. I hope she doesn't shoot too low a number.

Oh Tricia I so get your litter issues. I also have the solution. We have kitty sleds. they hold all the big cats no problem and have solved all the peeing outside the box.

@Linda and Scooter & Jack If you look at the picture, that is Cinco's box, too, but right now he can't get in it because the sides are too high for him with that ginormous collar on. It solved that problem for us, too. So for right now I have to hope he can keep it all in the lower box - he has to be able to get into it to use it! I just checked and he must have managed to get into the big one this morning, as he left a nice prezzie in there for me. I think I'll leave the backup there for now.

@MollynSkooter, cute but definitely a bit too pricey. You are always on the lookout for shirts, aren't you? I have a million t-shirts, really.

@Bron and Sheba, can't you order .5 syringes online?

I saw that sweatshirt a few days ago, too....very cute, but wow on the price!

Yay for Minka's happy appy....I hope it has continued through today! Poor Cinco....I hope that hotspot heals up quickly so he can get out of that cone...

Sorry Tricia, I had to laugh when I read the part how Cinco peed.
I know it's not funny for you but really, it is.
I can hear Cinco saying, Oh? This isn't how you wanted me to use it?
It's OK, Cindo boy, a little bit of inaccuracy is allowed, especially when you are wearing the evil cone.

It so happened that I am going to visit my parents and sisters in Japan this August, so I tentatively put that sweatshirt in my Amazon Japan's shopping cart. :p
They make some cute beds too, http://www.unihabitat.jp/products/upb30/, which I may have to buy.....

Sending healing and appy vines to all your babies!

OMG, @mariko! Those beds are adorable! If you get that shirt, you'll have to post a picture of you with one (or both) of your kitties in. How wonderful that you get to go home for a visit. Scritches to Ginger and Cashmere.

I haven't tried to order .5 syringes online, but it would be a big ongoing expense to get them in from overseas all the time I would think. I will check

Those cat beds are so cute, Mariko!
Lulu tells me she saw Cinco at the lagoon today but he was too close to shore for her to say meowdy.

We get huge plastic storage bins and cut an entrance in one side (usually an end). Then Zener could get in easily and had plenty of room to do his business. He could stand up and pee against the side. We put pads outside the entrance because sometimes he would pee out the opening. I read on the CH facebook page that people heat the plastic with a hair dryer to make it easier to cut. I had to chuckle at the image of Cinco peeing too, although it's not funny when it's happening.

@Bron and Sheba : You could try digital calipers. Once you have your dose figured out and know by how much your will increase or decrease when needed, you won't ever have to bother with the lines on the syringes (most lines are inaccurate in any event). I'm sure you can get small digital calipers in AUS. The ones most of us here use are: http://www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-digital-caliper-47256.html You can read the specs and try to find something similar in AUS.

Good Luck!

Ella
