Yesterday - Did not break bounce :(

Well Luci disappointed me yesterday - no breaking the bounce - in fact she decided late to go completely the other way into the low 300's after PM shot. Whatever is that about?

We're preparing for our visit to the vet for her annual dental cleaning. I hope it's just routine but with cats anesthesia is required so no food and no insulin this morning hence - no AMPS number. I will be getting a test before we leave but doubt there will be time to post that before getting it together to drive over.

I wish Luci was a bit more predictable - I've modified my spreadsheet to make it clear how many increases and reductions we've done - hoping to show it to the vet today (this is a new vet for us) on the I-pad - perhaps getting some advice?? Or at the very least making it easier for the support group here to see all the ups and downs - and how often we do that.

I wish there was a better way for me to hang on to important threads (like who and when I got the advice to hold the dose unless she drops below 50 x 3 or below 40 x 1 - I know it's out there somewhere...would love to have saved that url as a reference! Next time I will!

Good luck today! Hope she just needs a cleaning and nothing more.

I have a document with all notes and threads I want to keep. Above the information I will title it like: failed reductions, and then all I have to do is do a ctrl and F to take me to what I am looking for.

Good luck with the dental, hope it goes smooth for the furball. I always liked to still test at the same time, even with vetty visits and no food. This helped keep the SS consistent and I could see where he was at his usual time. In the title we would call it AMBG since no shot was given. That is a good idea to test before heading out to know where he started before the vet visit.

Vines for a smooth and low...ish stress day for Luci.

Sending good dental vines your way. :bighug: I too took an AMBG test, for data's sake.

To record posts I wanted to save, I created a column after the Remarks on the SS, and stored the URL's there of a post if it was interesting for that day.

I'm calling Luci Ms. Grumpy Pants today - she growled for the entire evaluation/physical exam. I was holding her and she was tensed up and buzzing away...so I called her Grumpy Pants - then the time came for me to return her to her carrier and leave - vet was going to prep her and get her done around noon or shortly after.

They called at 3 to let me know that basically she doesn't have any rear teeth! I knew that two teeth had been extracted last year and she has some remaining roots - but no back teeth at all! Vet suggested they may be 'resorbed'...I'll have to research this a bit.

Luci's number wasn't all that bad this evening (278). Her AMBG was 264 - so it didn't spike like I expected. The vet was impressed with the SS - especially the colors - said it was so much easier to read...and it was her opinion that Luci's numbers don't look at that bad. Her lab work done last week BG was not as bad as it was in November either...perhaps she is making improvement after all :)

She'd like for me to send her numbers to her in 5 days to see what they are so 'she can suggest a dose increase'. I did not argue with her or tell her that I've already got a reliable place for advice - I mean how does she think I've figured it out for these months??? Oh well...I'll send her the numbers and see what she thinks.

But I have to say, I'm already thinking of a dose increase - question is how long do I wait for Luci to regain her equilibrium after spending the day in the 'oh the horror of it all'...vets office...she was reaching her paw out through the bars of the holding cage to torture the ladies who were trying to get her into her crate - they tricked her though...put the carrier all the way in and trapped her in it - like a bug under the glass....and now she's safely home; given her PM dose - eaten her dinner - and has even had a Young Again treat. For which she went absolutely crazy! Need the carb info on those - and serving size. She got ONE tonight...would love to give her a few more...but am not familiar with this product yet.

Thanks to everyone for the healing vines today :) :bighug::bighug::bighug:

So did the vet just do a cleaning today? FORL are quite common in older cats (resorption). Is Luci eating well tonight? Is she on any meds from the dental? Some types of anesthesia induction drugs can lower the BG, so you may or may not have to keep a close eye on her tonight. You only had 4 cycles after the last green, so not enough to say if she needs an increase. Cycle count starts over tonight.

BTW, Young Again is dry food.

    That is funny !

Glad she's home and hope her mood improves.

Did they take X-rays? And what are they going to do about the retained root s?

Yes, just a physical exam and a cleaning of her remaining teeth. Luci ate very well last night - in fact I was wondering if she'd had any food at all while she was out? She seemed really hungry and thirsty! So I fed her the usual amount with her PMPS and another 1/4 can about an hour later because she was begging!!

No, there were no meds given after her cleaning.

She did have a 'blue number' night - but didn't drop dramatically into any really low areas...and is back up again this morning - now to post for 6/1.

They did take x-rays and as far as what they're going to do about the retained roots: nothing. The vet gave me the names of 3 Vet Dental specialists but advised that I should keep an eye on her for 'problems' like mouth bleeding, tenderness, not eating, etc. before pursuing having the surgery to remove the retained roots. She thinks they may be 'resorbed'...

I would pursue getting those roots removed by a specialist. I’m quite shocked they left them in there to begin with, but perhaps the vet realized that it is too complicated a procedure for them, in which case it’s good they left it alone. It’s not something that is going to resolve on its own. It’s a very painful condition and it’s likely to recur in remaining healthy teeth later. Even if it’s not FORLS, having a root without a tooth below the gum line is a problem, but it sounds a lot like tooth resorption disease.

We took quite a hit financially yesterday for the cleaning...we may have to take a bit of time to save up for another procedure. DH just had dental work done as well...it was really, really expensive...so we're sorta drowning in debt at the moment...just need a bit of time to recover...I don't know how much this would cost for Luci - but I can ask - and go from there.

Just to get my head around what the expense would be - I contacted one of the vet dental specialists and they quoted me between $700 - 950...Luci is going to have to wait a while :(
