Deputy China, reporting for duty!!

I'm getting a little stir crazy ....I'm so used to being out and about at least several times a week, but the heat is keeping me indoors. Tomorrow DM has an appointment with the sleep apnea doctor, so I have no choice but to get her out, heat or not. Luckily by the time I get there to pick her up, the car will be cool and the doctor just opened a new outreach clinic that's literally right around the corner from DM's apartment building, so we won't be out in it long.

Got another worry on my shoulders now....One of my civvies, Cleo has a lump that's growing quickly. I first noticed it about a month ago and it was about the size of a pea...now it's more like a marble :nailbiting::nailbiting:

It's located pretty much in the same area I shoot China's insulin...along the top right shoulder/scruff area. It's hard and if I try to feel around it, it really feels like a marble that's right under the skin. I know she needs to get seen by the vet, but money is always an issue around here.

Does anybody have any idea how much I might be looking at spending to have a lump removed/biopsied? Hate to do another fundraiser since I have to do them for China's dentals at least yearly, but I think it's my only choice :(

Anyway, I hope you're all having a nice Tuesday and your kitties are being good!!

@Tricia Cinco(GA) & Harvey ...the closest Red Lobster is an hour away...Not sure how good the food would be by the time I got it home:confused: Living in the middle of nowhere is a real pain most of the time

Is it where they give the FeLv shot??
If so it often come back when removed...
not sure of cost.... form my experience most biopsies come back "inconclusive" which is not helpful at all:banghead:

China is looking good. Sorry to hear about the lump on Cleo. I have no idea on the cost. I hope you can get her to the vet soon. Sending prayers.

I never did either ... I have just seen it from working with my vet. I got Rico at 11 months so he may have had it?
It is hard? Feel like a marble or size of a marble?
movable?

Yes it's hard....it really does feel like a marble that's just under the skin. It doesn't "move"...it seems like I can totally "feel around" the whole thing (like it's not attached to anything)

If was me I would watch it--if Cleo is in good health removing it may be a good option and bypassing the biopsy. Just my thoughts. I have rarely seen a biopsy give a conclusive answer. If you think it could "pop" you can always try warm compresses to bring to a head. Could be a sebatious cyst....
Avoiding surgery is always a plus:cat:

Nice surfing today China!

Sorry to hear Cleo's got a worrying bump. I think the cost will vary based on what needs to be done. I once had a bump removed from a civie and all they needed to do was a local, not even sedation. Much cheaper than if they have to do anesthesia. In that case, I skipped the biopsy - the vet thought it was just a sebacious cyst. Always a risk, but he was an older cat with other things in play.

Good luck with DM's appointment tomorrow. I hope it cools off a little for you.

Nice numbers today China!
Sorry about the lump you found on Cleo. I don't have any idea about cost of removal or biopsy.

Good luck with DM's appt tomorrow!

Lookin' good, Deputy China. The kitties will surf safe tonight with you on duty. And I'll be in the water again soon. Taking a dinner break.

Hi Chris, i hope the "marble " turns out to be nothing to worry about.
I hope that your weather cools off soon. It's awful to be cooped up in the house. Hang in there!

Hi Chris. I'm glad China is being a very conscientious deputy and pulling double shifts. :D Harvey enjoyed working with her today and I told him he was welcome to put in some more time tonight. We'll see if he takes me up on it.

I debated about saying this, but I decided I'd better. The area where Cleo's lump is located is the same place that Sasha's was. Not trying to alarm you, but I do think you should at least have the vet check it out. I would also do some research on lumps like that is see if the way it feels is any kind of indicator on what it might be. The fact that it's grown so fast is somewhat concerning. Sorry, but I'm pretty gunshy about that kind of thing after the past few years around here. I'll be praying it's just a cyst and easily dealt with. :bighug:

After consulting Dr. Google, it does sound like this might be what's going on...I can only hope since it doesn't look like it would be horribly expensive to treat

Guess I'm just going to have to dig through the couch cushions and see if I can come up with enough to get her in for a vet visit and go from there.

Chris... try the warm compress / moist heat....and if it ruptures you can just clean it (the vet would do the same.... at least my vet would)
You can use betadine solution and dilute it to the color of tea with water from a lactated ringer if possible.....
You can literally flush the "empty sack" if it does rupture with that solution.
If it is a S. Cyst it can still move around a bit....
I groom a dog that has tons of them and this is kind of gross but they pop like zits:confused:
