We had to take Trixie to the vet yet again this morning; during the overnight hours, she was having some pretty painful urination (something we've been dealing with on and off for a couple months now). First thing this morning, her urination seemed better; however, after breakfast (the morning routine seemed pretty normal), she wasn't able to walk more than a few steps before having to lay down.

X-rays showed she had fluid around her lungs, and her heart has a distinctive gallop...so yes, most likely CHF. They drained 7oz of fluid and put her on a tiny dose of Lasik to see if we could possibly balance the heart and kidneys.

As for the urination, the vet things after all we've been through there it's most likely idiopathic cystitis. If she does OK with the Lasik, we'll probably add gabapentin for pain management. The vet didn't want to do too many changes at once, though.

She's been battling seriously advanced CKD for so long, so I can't say I'm shocked, but I am still quite sad (can't think of how else to put it). We're taking things one minute at a time. He seemed to think she'd be OK through the weekend at least, although of course with heart issues you never know for sure.

I'm supposed to vend at a bead show this weekend, but I guess I'll be cancelling - it would be horrible if something happened and I wasn't here. So on top of all the cat stuff, it really appears that the powers that be just do not want me to get this business off the ground....

Oh Amy, sorry is so inadequate to say to you! But I am so very sorry for you, DH and Trixie! Vines, hugs, fingers crossed, prayers, white light, good thoughts and everything good going up for you!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

(((Amy))) I'm so sorry, it's just too much. Can say I understand but not much more that will make a difference. Praying she handles the LASIK ok and I know you'll keep her comfortable. Mega vines, prayers and :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thinking of you. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Neko felt much better with the fluid drained. That and the tiny bit of Lasix every other day seemed to help her. I hope it does for Trixie.

For the cystitis with Theo, we did plenty of water in his food, Feliway diffusers as stress is a big player. He also got Prazosin, but that might be counterindicated in Trixie. This paper discusses some of the treatments.

Oh Amy! I am so very sorry to hear this news and I hope that the lasik will help her.

Also , sorry about the bead show. There will be another one for you. You are doing the right thing to stay close to home this weekend.

Sending lots and lots of vines. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

sending more prayers Amy..... it is such a difficult balance and you have been so wonderful managing to keep her feeling good. My heart is with you in this difficult time. I do want to let you know they told me that IF Rico made it thru the night I was lucky if I got another 2 weeks with him.... that was about 10 months ago with the help of a small dose of lasix am and pm/vetmedin and ondansetron and cerenia.
1 thing he does not have is diabetes....
much love to you both....:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you, everyone, for all the love and support. It has been a long day, but knowing all of you are here does make it a tad easier.

So far this evening, you would never know anything was amiss...appy is strong, snuggles are plentiful, she's peeing without issue (but of course we have extra peeing because of the lasix), breathing is comfortable, walking is arthritic-normal. It's as if the last 24 hours happened in a parallel universe....if only.

I did forget to mention they also drew blood today - those results should be in tomorrow.

Sending more vines and positive energy your way. I hope you and Trixie are having a good night and the Lasix will help Trixie feel better.
Happy to hear she had a good appetite and was a snuggler this evening :bighug::bighug::bighug:

All of those updates sound like things are headed in the right direction. Sending our best wishes for continued improvement. Stay well sweet Trixie!

Hi Amy, and Mark,
I am just now reading your original post and the update. The update sounds very positive and we will be thinking good thoughts and sending prayers and vines. I hope this weekend will continue Trixie's progress toward feeling better.

Lots of hugs and scritches,

(((Amy))) I'm sending mega vines to Trixie. She's in the best of hands with you on her side. I'm keeping you both in my prayers.
