Yesterday, Neko got a dosecrease.
7/5 Recap:
AMPS 140 +6 220 +9 131
PMPS 113 +4 122 +9 63:D

Sorry, late condo today - been spending the day helping a friend reupholster some chairs. DH was in charge.

Neko is enjoying a slightly cooler day today. It's cloudy (actually smokey) so not as hot. We've had a few purrs and some good stretches with acupressure. :) Tomorrow is acupuncture vetty trip. This is the first time I've stretched it out to 4 weeks apart and she seems to be doing OK with it.

The question: the Vancouver area is under a air quality advisory due to the smoke from some fires to the north of us (close to a cousins farm, that's another worry :nailbiting:). They say that diabetics should stay indoors. I've read that air quality can cause some higher BG and insulin resistance. Neko LOVES spending time out in our solarium, and the screens are open to the outside. It's also quite hot here. Her numbers don't seem to be bothered by it. Should I be worried?

OT: The sun was an orange orb through the haze this morning. The smoke made rowing extra challenging. The wind turned and it's a bit better this afternoon. No real change expected in the weather for at least a week. :(

That is VERY interesting Here in Winnipeg we have had about 3 days of the same smoke alert with strong smoke cover. Today was the first day that we have seen blue skies. Even though Tuxie was only outside for a few minutes the last few days, I did have some windows open a crack as well. Tuxie's numbers were very poor until this evening when he did a big nose dive. I wonder if you have something there with the smoke alert???

I saw pictures and couldn't believe how hazy it is there. I feel so sorry that you and your furbabies are having to endure this. I read that diabetics should stay indoors, so can only assume the same applies for cats. I'll do some googling and see what I can find out. I can only imagine the racket Neko would make if she couldn't enjoy her solarium.
We are forecast to get smoky haze tomorrow.

Nice day for Miss Neko! :D
I feel for you and Mariko...:bighug:I've seen your headlines, and I would be worried not only about diabetics, but everybody-infants, elderly otherwise compromised health conditions. It can't be good to breath those particles. :nailbiting: I have asthma and allergies, so my allergist recommended getting air conditioning years ago and never opening the windows and people have to take off their shoes!

We had terrible smoke here last summer from a fire that got quite close to us (we had burnt embers of pine bark landing in our yard). The air quality was very poor for several days. We had to keep our house closed up and ran a HEPA air filter in our house and that seemed to help us. Zener still demanded to go for walks in his backyard but we tried to keep his time in the smoke at a minimum. I don't remember whether his numbers were affected or not, he was never very consistent with his numbers anyway.

So sorry for you gals..I hope the fires get brought under control soon. So much havoc wrought on so many levels. Not the least of which poor Neko having reduced solarium time!;). Stay safe.

Neko is on house arrest. We do keep windows and doors closed. It keeps the house cooler. Solarium screens are closed now that it's cool enough there.

Mary Ann, Lori, Ruth, Jayme, Megan - Thanks for stopping in. I was wondering if anyone knew the why of diabetics avoiding the bad air. It's makes sense for those with respiratory issues. We don't have air conditioning and places that carry hepa air filters are out of stock.

if you have something like amazon prime ... you are likely to be dealing with this for a while.
I agree to shut the smoke out.....
maybe you can make Neko her own special imitation solarium.... got a good lamp to pose over her.....

I dislike that orange orb color just because of bad associations with our own fires.....
many of us sat in our cars on the only road out for a few minutes.... orange overcast ... sun and smoke....
and the fire was already burning down houses just 3 blocks away.....
the crews got traffic moving so we could all get out of here....

Best to stay safe in those conditions and hope it doesn't last too long. Strange how is affects diabetics though, wouldn't have thought that, as if we don't have enough to worry about. Glad it's a bit cooler at least for you.

Yikes, just had a look at your news. And a bit of a Google about smoke and diabetics. Most of the concerns seem to be the more long term things like vascular issues (associated with smoking) but one article did mention wood fire smoke raising BG levels in diabetics. :bighug: to the kitties that the solarium is out of bounds but better safe than sorry. They will appreciate it so much more upon its reopening!

A couple of my old high school buddies are spending a couple of days in Vancouver before embarking on an Alaskan cruise. They've been commenting on Facebook about the smoke. We had some bad fires here a couple of years ago and had to keep everything closed up. Every time I went outside I felt like I was at a campground. I hope your fires are under control and gone soon.

Neko, sorry about the solarium. I'm sure you can find someplace almost as comfy to nap while it's off limits.

Sorry about all the smoke. I would have never thought about it being bad for a diabetic. I hope they get things under control soon.

The fires haven't been covered in the news here. I did notice on FB that Carolyn/Latte were being affected in Minneapolis. It sounds awful.
