AMPS 441
After a lovely day surfing in the green yesterday, Sheba has got back on the trampoline. I am not surprised as she had a big drop between +3 and +4 yesterday morning.
She was much more alert yesterday as well as the day wore on, so I am thinking maybe the lower numbers were making her feel better and it is not the Tramadol that is making her drowsy.....maybe both...
I just hope this bounce doesn't last too long.

I am going to be out with my daughter all morning and into the afternoon today so bounces do have their uses at times. DH is going to feed Sheba and keep an eye on her.

Thank you Marilyn for your information on pilling in yesterday's condo which I have just seen.
I thought I did everything right this morning with the pill and was congratulating myself when I saw she had spat out the pill and it was in the food she was eating!

Welcome to the club, Bron! I can't tell you how many times I've thought the pill went down and then found it. Lucky you to find it right away. I often find them later, and then am not sure if it was today's or not!

Sheba, off the trampoline, please. You can give your mamabean a permission slip to go out without hanging from the rafters!

Sorry about the bounce but she picked the right say at least. I give Max a treat before the gelcap and baby food right after. Once in awhile I find the gelcap that he managed to spit out to now I check right after.

Yes, she did pick a good day to bounce!
Giving a treat beforehand might be a good idea thanks. This morning when I noticed she had spat out the gelcap she had started to eat some food I had put down and I think it was easier the second time because she just kept swollowing...I will try that thanks Elise.
Tricia, I'm checking straight away she has swollowed it because she is very clever at spitting it out even when I put it right back in her throat.

I use pill pockets with Michael. Duck and Pea for dogs. These pockets are use for diabetics. I cut them smaller. Michael doesn't like duck so I have to coat the pocket with freeze dried treats. This seems to work. I place the pill pockets on his condo (first I give him a freeze dried treat) and he eats them. He doesn't even know a pill is in them. (anti jinx)
Hope this helps
Paula:)

Nice timing on the bounce - perhaps a higher permission slip to leave that you needed , but you go with what you get. Hope you are doing something fun with your daughter.

Thanks Paula.
I will have another look around for pill pockets. I wasn't sure when I did find some if they were ok to use with diabetics. And the ones online were very expensive...but I will look again. Up until now I have been able to crush pills in her food and she eats them, but the tramadol is bitter. She knows when I am going to give it to her and she has started to run away:( If I do find any which I think might be suitable I will post and ask if they are suitable for diabetics as that was my main concern.

Some vet offices here also sell the pill pockets, as well as pet stores. It's a great help here on the meds. I occasionally give them "blanks" with no pills, so they associate it with treats.

@Wendy&Neko
No, not something fun unfortunately. She is going to see a specialist and asked me to go to. But she has just rung to say the specialist is sick today and they have rescheduled for Thursday. OK Sheba...I am putting in an order for a bounce on Thursday morning.

I checked at my vet and they had no pill pockets there! I will look further though as I like the idea...thanks

I hope Sheba clears the bounce quickly. Sorry she spit the gelcap back out. One of my civvies is very hard to pill. I have to hold her between my legs and shove the pill down her throat and rub her throat while holding her mouth shut until she swallows. Afterwards, I immediately give her a couple of treats to make sure it has gone down and I pet her and tell her what a good girl she is.

Carla, what you do is exactly what I do.! Except I don't have to hold her as she will sit for me. It is while she is eating the treats that I find she has spat out the gelcap....she is starting to bring her paw up now to try and move my hand.

OT
I forgot to mention that my sister tripped over a Doona she was carrying the other day and fell and fractured her wrist.

Then over the weekend my SIL put up a flying fox in the back yard for the kids to slide on, and my 10 year old GD fell badly and fractured her elbow.
Between them all the GKs have had several fractures over the years but it is because they are very active and always climbing, jumping, playing etc.....

I haven't looked lately but in the past we haven't been able to get the pill pockets in Oz  if customs notices what they are they will grab them too so it's a bit of a roll of the dice ordering them in. As long as the description doesn't sound like food they should sneak past...

I know you're not supposed to give the Chicken flavored pill pockets for a diabetic, but they are the ones I use if I have to give Furball a pill. I've never noticed a change in her BG, but I don't have to give her pills very often. The Duck & Pea pill pockets are supposed to be good for a diabetic.

Try Amazon.com for Duck & Pea pill pockets for dogs. Apparently these are the only ones suitable for diabetics.
The other ones have sugar/corn syrup in them.

I can't find them anywhere in Aus either Serryn.
Amazon will not ship to Aus. I am sure it is because of customs...they are so jolly strict out here....which is good in lots of ways but a nuisance in others. The sniffer dogs at customs would pick them up in a flash!
I think I will have to try and soldier on with the gelcaps and I will try and make some pill pockets with small lumps of chicken or maybe I could try liver and see if she can be fooled with those.
Thanks Paula, Carla, Serryn, Wendy and Elise for helping me sort out the pilling dilemma. I will let you know how we get on.

+4 302 so dropping quite quickly

They've been known to slip through the net before... I have some in my cupboard ;) they are very out of date now but I still sprinkle some on Vyktors food sometimes to get him started with the eating. If I recall correctly there was a make your own recipe floating around that involved liver. You may be able to find it on a search - not sure if the search function searches the old board too?

We had one member who used to put pills in a tiny bit of tuna sushi. I've also seen raw chicken hearts advertised as natural pill pockets for dogs.

I need to find something I can use ongoing, and I think the cost of getting the pill pockets from the U.S. would be a lot. Mostly with shipping. I would need two a day and the packets are 25
I like the idea of the liver and heart. she loves both and I have both here all the time. Hearts would be great for dogs...there is a hole to put the tablet on and they would just gulp it down. I will try a small piece of the liver tonight I think as it probably has a stronger taste than the heart.......
Thanks Serryn and Wendy
