Hello-

I am grateful to report that Maxi is feeling much better. His appetite has returned.
Thank you all for your kind words and help.

The day he came home (May 4) after 4 days in the hospital, he had diarrhea 3 times. The next day (May 5), he had diarrhea 2 times. The day after that (May 6), he had diarrhea 2 times. Yesterday (May 7), he had diarrhea 1 time. So far today, he has had diarrhea 1 time. (I found it in the box early morning - could have had the diarrhea any time after 1am this morning/last night.)

He has not had a normal bowel movement since coming home. He had no diarrhea and 2 normal BMs in the hospital (according to their report, and I do think they are vigilant and report accurately).

As I said, he seems to feel quite good now.

Is it normal with pancreatitis to have prolonged diarrhea like this?

Thank you

I'm glad Maxi is feeling better and eating. I'm sorry about the diarrhea. I hope it clears up soon. Sending prayers.

Thank you!

Carla, would you happen to know if it would be ok to use butter as a "pill pocket"? I get a little pat of butter that's been in the fridge, put the pill in it and roll it into a little ball, refrigerate it for a few minutes until it keeps its form, and pop it into the mouth. That has worked well for me in the past, but I'm not sure if Maxi should have even a little butter...?

Not Carla butter butter is fine though a bit slippery from my attempts. I used gel caps and coated them with baby food.

The ongoing diarrhea might be from pancreatitis but could be from IBD or other intestinal issues as well. The folks I told you about on groups io also have a pancreatitis group. Maureen is a moderator there as well.

Thanks, Elise.

If you refrigerate the little butter ball until it gets kind of hard and don't handle it for more than a few seconds, it works well. Maxi is pretty easy to give pills to; I've been dipping them in olive oil to make them slippery, but the half pills still have sharp edges that I don't want to scratch his throat, and putting them in butter would solve that. I just don't want to give him anything that could irritate his stomach.

I'm in the kidney disease group now, but I haven't even looked at it yet -- no time. I'd like to join the pancreatitis group too. Maybe eventually I'll find time.

Sounds good. Those groups don’t have a high volume. No rush to join just wanted to let you know they are out there. :bighug:

Glad Maxi seems to be feeling better! I wonder if the diarrhea will resolve with more time on the probiotics. Noodle is a terror to pill, so I've always caved and used the smallest amount of the Duck and Pea Pill Pockets. Very stinky, but she loves them and will hoover them right up!

I use a small piece of a pill pocket for Furball.

I understand pill pockets have sugar/carbs and should be avoided for diabetics, but it's a great idea to use a small piece of one. They are bigger than they usually need to be.

The duck and pea pill pockets are diabetic friendly. Unfortunately only available in the dog version now, but you can break off a piece and use it.

As for butter - does Maxi have a dairy intolerance? Neko didn't - loved butter!

Is that a blue I see today?

Oh yes I remember you said that. Chewy was out of them when I tried to order.

Maxi doesn't have a dairy intolerance as far as I know. He loves butter, too.

Yes, a blue! But then a yellow and then a pink.
