Bet's levels in 300s/200s since 12/7. Still adjusting dose. Need opinions.

As you can see by Bet's sheet, his levels have more or less stabilized in the 300s and 200s since I lowered his dose to .5 of the Lantus he's been on since November 8. I'll guess an insulin depot caused the drop in his levels earlier last month.

These levels have been going on for long enough that I think it's time to raise his dose, tomorrow to .75 or as close as an approximation as I can do. I have the proper syringes. It is difficult to measure .5 now but I do the best I can....I don't even know if I got the .5 in to Bet this morning. It felt like nothing was going in. I wonder, considering the +3 measurement. I will continue the +3, +6 etc measurements in the days after the raise of dose.

I'd like some opinions as to what I am doing and going to do tomorrow.

In my opinion, it's been 14 cycles since last green I would increase to .75
Other will weigh in

Today is a high flat cycle - I wonder if he is planning something tonight? That said he seems to have had a couple of high flat cycles with no drop that was recorded. You are on cycle 14 of that .5 units. I would wait and see what he does tonight, make sure to get some a test or two in. If you don't see green I would go up to .75 units.

I'm testing to see how he's reacting to dosage at this point, since his depot drop. I was urged by others to drop him to .5 and wait, at this point for I forget how many cycles (tired) and test every three hours. There were a lot of little things I didn't know, being a newbie. I think it's time to change his dose. I can get 1 reading at PMP+3, but no more beyond that. I'd like to adhere to the TR and at least get him on a regular dosage.

Ha and thanks. I have been making him a bone broth since yesterday per the instructional video here and he wouldn't eat the resulting chicken....until he ate a bit of it today. His Majesty prefers the freeze dried chicken breast treats. I wanted something that would help fight dehydration (no real problem with that now). If he won't drink the broth I plan on drizzling a bit of it over his FF food.

I try to get tests every 3 hours. Last night I fell out...

I usually get a before bed one and then if low then do stay up another hour to check.

Jones didn't like the bone broth but the other kitties did!

I fell out right after his PMP shot, wiped out after a busy day, but hoping to wake up again. If all else fails, the cats wake me up to get fed. They couldn't get me up! Cold and I was buried under the covers....no paw pokes could get to me.

I hope somebody likes the bone broth, otherwise I'm going to freeze it in ice trays, put them in ziplocks, and use them as needed to drizzle over his Majesty's food. Maybe Abby, Bet's sister, will like it. They are both skittish after going through Katrina with me so long ago. They have never been fed people food, and they're the only two cats I have. I suspected competition was a thing in the vet's video and contributed to the willingness of the cat to eat it.

Thanks for that info for the missing data. I think Bets needs an increase up to .75. That dose got skipped over with all the NS. I would increase the next cycle where you can monitor. If a +3 is all you can get tonight, that would give you an idea if the cycle was going to be active.

I will do my best! PMP is at 8pm. I will eat something sugary (anathema!) to wake me up...Thanks.

People plan, and Creator laughs. Bet's first reading this morning was 104, so I retested and it was 134. Geez! I continued with the .5 dose. I'll continue the tests every 3 hours during the day to see how he does. I wonder if it's possible to get an insulin depot from such a small dose? Tearing out my hair...

There is always a depot, when you increase you wait for it to fill to the new dose, when decreasing you are waiting for it to drain.

Each shot - some goes into the system right away and the rest is stored in the depot to be used throughout the day. That is why Lantus is a long acting insulin. There is something there all the time, we shoot every 12 (cats have a faster metabolism compared to us) to keep everything on a even keel.

Sometimes, a dose takes a while to take affect. There could of been bouncing in there as well from that 41 that took awhile to clear the system.

Don't tear your hair out...it will come second nature soon enough.

Latest reading at 11am is 65, after the .5 shot at 8am. I'll keep a close eye on him during the day.
 
0.5 units is looking like a good dose. :D If you are following Tight Regulation that is. However, those greens mean a decrease if you are following Start Low Go Slow for dosing. Have you decided yet what you'd like to follow? Putting SLGS or TR in your signature will help us help you.

One other housekeeping note, we typically start one new post a day to keep the posts from getting too busy and hard to follow.

OK, new post every day. Now I understand why the forum looks like a zoo! No offense. I am following no particular protocol, really, just testing every 3 hours starting at 8 am until 11pm, until I get him stable. Thanks.

Cats are not predictable. Nadirs can and do move around. I wouldn't stick to testing every three hours, but rather test when the numbers tell you to. For example, I would have tested within an hour of that 65 to see if he was going even lower.

Certainly was a bounce from this morning to this afternoon - at 5pm it went up to 168 from 70.
