Way to go Fred!! :D :D It really is great to see him doing so well...and now all the way down to a 0.1u dose! :D And so far, not a bounce in sight (anti-jinx)!!

He's already at 57. Should I just leave out his pate or maybe also a little diabetic dry higher carb? He hasn't had insulin since yesterday morning and it was .25.

Leave out his regular LC wet food. He's been over 24 hours without insulin and should be OK. Remember that some people test their OTJ kitties in the 40's. Don't do dry food - once you've made the transition you don't want to go back.

Dry takes a lot longer to have any effect. Do you have any MC? Although w/ the number of times you have skipped lately the shed should be pretty drained and he should be safe.

The highest I have is 8 carb...mixed grill pate. I'll leave that out. He's been peaking anywhere from +3 - +6 so I'll try to come home in a few hours and test.

PMBG @ 53....he's eating now..... I can't shoot him when he's this low....not even the .1 ! I was scared to death shooting the 77 the other night. Retest in a bit, but your thoughts?

If he's eating, that eliminates stalling. When you're stalling you want to not feed them. Otherwise you're going to have a food-influenced preshot. If you can afford to be off schedule, you could retest him 2 hours after he's done eating and see if he's high enough that you feel comfortable shooting at that time.

You may end up skipping in the morning anyway, so perhaps the schedule doesn't matter.

Yeah he was starving, cuz he normally eats at shot time at 9. So I'll retest at 11. You're right I'll prob skip tomorrow anyway to be safe cuz I'll be at work. It's like he really doesn't want any more insulin, at all.

It's hard to make that call yet. He hasn't had this dose yet, and we do know that for a strong remission, it's important for the cat to stay in green numbers, with insulin support, as long as they'll take it. If he goes below 50 on 0.1u, then that would tell you that he's done with insulin. But he hasn't done that yet.

I'm just very aware we've had too many people starting OTJ trials too soon lately, and too many of those have been back on insulin in a matter of weeks. You want it to stick. There's no way to know if Fred would be one of those or not, but the suggestion to reduce to 0.1u, to shoot everything over 50 if you can monitor as long as the kitty's not sick - those are based upon experience with a zillion cats in this group. I just wouldn't want you to stop too soon.

That said, I have no way to know if Fred wouldn't go below 50 tonight on 0.1u, so of course, it's always your call. I just want you to be aware of the risks of stopping insulin too soon, or of skipping too many shots that could be given.

I've only got 4 strips, anyway....so I gotta skip. It's just a drop of insulin. This is a marathon. Not a sprint. No hurry. He's doing great. We're learning all about this together. Tomorrow .1U.
