I have heard of two brothers getting acromegaly. But I have also read that there is possibly some genetic component too, possibly making some more succeptable than others. Here is the original paper: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23672960 on the chemical causes. And this next one talks about the gene connection: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0739724016301941

The PDBE's referred to in this article are similarly thought to be a possibly cause for hyperthyroidism, another disease caused by a tumour (often benign) that has been diagnosed with increased frequency lately. NY Times article here.
