Hi my name is Karrie and my 17 year old cat, CJ, has just been diagnosed. She's been prescribed Lantus u-100 2x a day at 1.5 units. I got her prescription filled at Walgreens & had major sticker shock ($290). I was hoping there are other places that I can find it cheaper. Also, will it last longer than 28 days? Thank you for any information. Much appreciated.

    Welcome.
Lantus is a good insulin. The insulin should last at least 6 months if refrigerated and not dropped too often.
It is best to get the 5 pack of 3 ml disposable pens via a 10 ml vial. Although per ml the vial is less expensive most cats will not use up a 10 ml vial before the insulin goes bad/becomes ineffective.
Many of us here get insulin form Canada, specifically here:

    Much cheaper than in USA
Most of us here test our cat's blood glucose at home using a human meter. We test before each shot and periodically between shots. We record our reading and other info in a spreadsheet. See:

What are you feeding? A low-carb canned is best. No reason for a prescription food. Here is a list of commercial low-carb canned

We have had a hard time getting her to eat but she is eating better every day. She was really sick and lost her appetite but its coming back quickly. The vet gave us some prescription canned and dry food but shes only eating fancy feast. She wont touch the other stuff.

Dry food is to high in carbs so it's good she's not interested in it. The prescription wet DM is okay if she's eating it.
