Luna's BG has been HI since eating this morning. We just tested with our ketone blood meter and it's 1.8. We've been in email contact with our doctor today, so we just emailed again asking what to do. In the meantime, I mixed 5g of food with a bunch of water to get her to drink. She finished all of it and is acting normal. If we don't hear back, we're going to call the vet.

I think I screwed up this morning. I saw a decent drop of insulin on her after I gave the injection. She's so damn skinny, there's no good place to make a tent...

When should I test ketones again? How long before water/food will flush some of them out?

And we're going up to 2U tonight

The water may help. There's no way to know how quickly Luna will respond to food and fluids. I would do what you can to coax her to snack throughout the day and keep adding water to her food.

Take a look at the user's guide for your meter. I'm pretty sure you're still in a safe zone. On a Precision xTra, 1.5 is when the numbers mean you need to get your cat to the vet.

Dan, are you using Keto-Mojo? If so, I think you are safe (or at least that's what I was told by someone else on this board.)

I'd use the same numbers BUT, given what Luna and you have been through and your instincts when it comes to her care, I'm all for you trusting your gut.

The vet on call said to wait and give insulin at normal time and to watch her. They didn't seem to be too worried about the ketone reading. She is still eating and drinking.

I don't want to wait so we're going to give it earlier and get back on schedule this week. Is 2 hours too early? I don't think she got much if any this morning.

2 hours is very early. On the other hand, that string of high numbers is UGLY. Do you feel like you can steer the cycle with food if Luna's numbers drop as a result of the early shot? That is more the question that I'd struggle with.

Dan -- I'm not around reliably to help out. I'm out of town at a conference and just dropping in as I can. I'm tagging a few people so you have back up.

Wow! I didn't realize the take action number for keytones on Keyto-Mojo was so low. Sorry about that! I really hope you can speak to a vet soon.
It says seek medical advice and assistance. I read in another post someone said 2.4

Thank you. We can definitely steer her. She's hungry all the time and I'm positive I screwed up this morning and she didn't get much insulin. I don't think there will be much overlap.

I will be in and out today out will keep looking online when I can to see how you are going. It's mid morning here in Aus.
That's good she is hungry.
I hope she comes down from those ugly black numbers soon.

Yes, the 2.4 number is what I remember someone telling me.

Thank you. We're going to start feeding in about 20 minutes and then wrap her up in a blanket to make sure we get the insulin in. We were about 15 minutes early with the (failed) morning injection, so we should only be about an hour and a half early tonight.

Here is some info on numbers for kitties and blood ketone numbers (please see post 10). I do have to add the caveat that I am not familiar with a Keto Mojo.

I would definitely give her insulin as soon as you can at/after +10. No need to wait. I can check in on you in a bit. I’m glad she’s eating. Do you have the ability to give her subq fluids at home? If so, I’d check with the vet and see if it’s warranted. That can help with ketones.

We just gave her 2U and I made the soupiest food I could and she destroyed it. Definitely has her appetite and she just got a lot of water. We were only an hour and a half early, so not bad. We'll continue to monitor throughout the night. Thank you everyone for the help. We're super paranoid after everything and this probably wasn't that bad

Sounds great. You know where to find us ;) Good to keep those liquids up in the food but be sure it’s not so watered down as to “dilute” the calories. Meaning, that she gets so full with the liquid that she doesn’t eat all the food where the calories are.

She finished everything; water and food, so she got all of the calories and a bunch of water. Hopefully we see that BG coming down soon. We made sure we 100% got the insulin in her.

2.44 is for Nova Max meter. I don't know about the meter your using. Can you do subq fluids, it can help flush.

Did you double check with hand held meter? Any chance libre is malfunctioning?

How is the site where it's attached? Possible infection somewhere?

We don't have subq fluids.

We checked with our handheld meter and she was 524 around +6. The Libre displays HI over 500.

The site around the sensor looks fine. Not noticeably red or anything that would indicate an infection. We clean her feeding tube wound twice a day. It has a scab but doesn't look bad. And she was just at the vet yesterday, so they would have noticed something I hope.

I really think I just screwed up and had a fur shot this morning. Almost a year doing this and this is the time I miss...

Please don't be hard on yourself, Dan. It happens to all of us. But I understand that the timing stinks.

Great news on both BG & Keytones!!! Phoebe Squeak & I are having a slumber party tonight so I've been keeping an eye on Luna. Waiting for Phoebe to come up and Luna to come down. Can we please meet somewhere in the middle, kitties?

How'd it go? We got down to 237. Probably don't want to meet us there
Thanks for asking, Dan. We got Phoebe Squeak up to 93 and then had the auto feeder take over to keep her safe overnight. But of course she likes to bounce (like her pal Luna) so she's now at 268. Sorry to see Luna's in pink again. I really hope our kitties decide to spend some time at the beach together soon. Phoebe will bring low carb snacks.

I don't mind the pink after Black Saturday. I think we'll see something good today. She went HI to yellow with 2U, so pink to blue should be possible.

We just need to get used to a new normal until she fully recovers. Our doctor wants her in the 150-300 range and I'd be more than happy with that right now.
