So it's been a while since I posted. Two days after my mother's funeral, I left on a long planned safari to South Africa. I was the only non vet among 7 feline vets who went along - we were hosted by a wildlife vet who does safaris for vets - he was amazing and had appeared in an episode on New Breed Vets hosted by Steven Irwin when he was alive - he was just as wild as Steve Irwin. We dehorned 7 rhinos, observed painted dogs being darted, put a collar on a lioness at night, among other things. It was just what I needed after my mother's stroke and death but now back to sad reality

My vet had arranged for Murphy to stay at the home of one of her clients - her cat with IBD and diabetes died around Christmas, and being a cat lover, she was happy to have a feline in her condo again - and she only lives 3 blocks away from me!! It worked out great and Murphy did fine what a relief
Now I'm trying to get his regulated (some things never change)

here's a few pics - I made them into pdfs

Welcome home, we missed you! I'm really glad you had such a wonderful trip, and that Murphy's "vacation" went well, too, lol. Thank you for sharing those fantastic pictures! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Welcome back! Those pictures are all amazing, but I have to say that the painted dogs are my favorite. Gorgeous markings.

...and I am glad that Murphy behaved himself while you were gone.

(((Carol))) What a wonderful experience and thank you for sharing the photos. Glad Murphy did find e while you were away. Very sorry to hear of your dear mum's passing, vines and prayers for peace and comfort :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Welcome home Carol!
So glad you were able to go on your trip it looks amazing!
and what a gift to have a wonderful sitter!

Again I am so sorry for the loss your going thru.....many thoughts and prayers...:bighug:

The wild (painted) dogs are truly amazing, and under appreciated. They live in very complex, matriarchal societies - they even take special care of any dogs in the pack that are ill - making sure that they get food
I would post more pics but there is some concern about posting the rhino pics - poaching is so scary there - the poachers are from crime syndicates/paramilitary and very scary.

Carol I am so jealous of your wonderful exciting safari!!!! No I am thrilled to hear you took off and did something so dangerous adventurous and exciting!
It is nice to have you back !
Time to get working Murphy Fritz and all the sugar kitties have missed you!

I'm glad you had such an exciting trip, and that you found an awesome person close by even to take care of Murphy.
That sounds really scary about the rhino poaching. I would frame the cheetah picture and the male lion picture. They would make good pictures for your wall.

@Dyana - here is the best cheetah pic- this was at DeWildt - a cheetah sanctuary outside of Pretoria- they purr while being petted, and their fur is not soft but feels like coarse bristles Cheetahs are my favorite - they are very timid cats- not fierce at all
@jayla-n-Drevon - the dogs are horrendously smelly but they are beautiful, especially the markings on their legs

Hi Carol! I am sooooooooo happy you made your trip!! What a once in a lifetime opportunity! And thank you for sharing those amazing pix! I SO admire the folks who do this work. In an era where so many seem to take the amazing assortment of wonderful species for granted and or as simply here to plunder I genuinely admire and am grateful for those fighting to protect and preserve them...your trip is one of my "some day I'd really like to " fantasies! How weird, cheetah look as if they would feel like cats! I would never have guessed they felt bristly.!
Glad you made it back safe and sound, must be strange being in two such different worlds!
Sounds like Murphy had a special caretaker in your absence, and that the way things worked out was perhaps meant to be...I'm guessing your Mum helped from up there in the stars:bighug::bighug:
You are in my thoughts and I'm sending gentle hugs, I know only too well that place you are in as every day routines that are the same again but forever different remind you of your loss:bighug::bighug:
Give Murphy a scritch for me!:cat:

Leslie - no nice to hear from you
yes, it is possible (even probable) that there will be no more safaris in 25 years -
That's what I've been hearing as the species are screaming into extinction faster than ever before ( no pun intended).. so hard to imagine, Africa without animals...
Or anywhere for that matter! :(
I was hoping you were able to make that trip, makes me really happy that you did!:bighug:

Carol, those pictures are wonderful. What an amazing trip! I adore the one of the cheetah - what a glorious creature!

I imagine this trip was just what you needed, after all you've been through. I hope it gave you time to heal and grieve and gain some perspective. What a relief to have Murphy in good hands!

My deepest sympathy on your loss, and many vines and prayers are headed your way for peace and comfort.
:bighug:

Thanks for all the expressions of support and empathy- I suppose time will lessen the pain, but knowing I'm not alone in this really helps
