Initislly I thought that the injections were easier than the BG testing. I changed my mind. I’m only giving my guy .5 units but every tine I give him the injection I have this worried feeling that either there wasn’t brought insulin in the syringe, or that it dropped out, or when I injected it, it didn’t get in there. I only have one chance every 12 hours of giving him the insulin that he needs and if I think I screwed up, I have to wait another 12 hours. Has anyone else experienced this frustration? How can I be sure he got it?

Hi. I believe you have posted in the wrong thread.

Can you repost on the Lantus forum?

And also mention the every 8 hour dosing.

As @Red & Rover (GA) said you are in the wrong area to post this.
I would copy and paste this to the main forum here....

I see you changed the time from 8 hourly to 12 hourly dosing.

I see Lantus is the insulin in your information.
When you inject Lantus, you can smell it if you miss getting the dose in under the skin. It is an unmistakable smell
Don't ever give another dose because it is too dangerous.
You are most likely giving the insulin. It is only a small amount to push in.

Are you home testing the blood glucose levels. I strongly recommend you do. It will keep your kitty safe.

See you over on the main forum

Hi. Yes. I always test, feed and then shoot. I'm very careful about being sure not to shoot if number is any close to being too low. I never give a second injection. If I think that I miss, I just hope that I didn't and then wait the 12 hours for the next injection. I will post in the Lantus section. Sorry.

There's no need to be sorry.....
I am so glad you are home testing. That is great!
Do you have a Spreadsheet? It is so much easier to help you if you have one.
Here is the link. If you have any trouble with it, let us know and we can help you with it.

Hi. Yes. I have spreadsheet. I was just asking if anyone has experienced this when giving insulin.

Don’t worry, you are more than welcome to ask questions even if you don’t want to share your spreadsheet (although it would be helpful if you did). It is hard to inject a cat who isn’t always cooperative and often wriggly. I’m often unsure if it went in properly. I usual sniff where I gave the shot as insulin has a really strong smell and you can smell if you missed. I’ve given plenty of fur shots - especially in the early days. Even if it hasn’t gone in, missing a shot is rarely a disaster and hopefully the next shot works better. Try not to stress - you’re doing your best for your cat.

Thanks for that. Yes. The smell of Lantus is so strong that as soon as I even take it out of the fridge, it just fills the air. I do want to share the spreadsheet. I have all the numbers. I just need to add them on there and with my work schedule and trying to learn everything, I haven’t had a chance to do this, as well as the signature, but I should have it done asap. Thanks.

I think every bean has these feelings. You are not alone. if you cant feel the wet insulin (after injection) on your fingers, I think you can trust it went in.
