This might be too hasty a reduction for him since we only just went down to 0.5 a couple days ago, but he's been doing so well this past week and it was easier on my mind to leave him on a little less insulin today since he was starting out at 63. So we'll see where he winds up after a couple days at this dose. If anyone thinks that I shouldn't have reduced him just yet, please let me know. It's still soon enough that I could give him the other 0.25 units to get him back up to 0.5 on this cycle

I generally don't offer dosing advise, but I think I'd hold on to the 0.25u for now and see what Tonka does with it. If he trends up at all, you can go back up. The last few cycles could be a little leftover depot of the 1u at play. However, with a PMPS of 58 without knowing if Tonka went lower yesterday during the AM cycle or later last night, I don't think you were off base by reducing to 0.25 this morning, especially without being able to monitor mid-cycle. I'll be interested to see what other folks have to say. Tonka's looking phenomenal! Fingers crossed that he stays green!

Thanks for that - I will probably just let this play out and see what happens as the depot drains. It's much less stressful to see him around 80 than in the mid 50s at pre-shot time, so as long as he doesn't start climbing out of the normal range, we'll stick with this. If he does start to climb, it's easy enough to go back to 0.5

Coming down at +1.5 hours, after eating. I take it that this means that his poor little abused pancreas is definitely kicking in?

Could be pancreas kicking in. With him starting to come down already with little or no food spike, if he were mine, I think I'd test again in a half hour or so.

Sounds like a good plan. He just tested 70 at +2, so he's sitting pretty stable at the moment. I'll keep an eye on him and test him again in an hour or so.

Great! :D Fingers crossed he'll surf. I'd keep a fairly close eye on him in case he does start to drop. Probably grab a +3 if you can?

Wow, Tonka continues to be amazing! :D I agree, let's see how he does on this dose.

Mel just had to take a big dose decrease with Rooh - looks like both kitties are racing for the finish line.:)

Climbing a touch (74 at +3) but still a good level. I think I will be able to sleep tonight :)
Just witnessed the boys doing some mutual grooming (so much easier when you have someone else to wash your face!) followed by some wrestling. Life is slowly getting back to normal

Good boy Tonka! He's appears to be surfing like a pro. :D To be safe, you may want to grab one more test a little later, but it does look like he's going to surf for you. Isn't that awesome when those behaviors start to return? For us, when Eddie started to blast around the house again playing tag with his civie siblings, we knew we were doing right by him, even though his numbers were still a horror at that time.

I just wish I could have gotten him under control soon enough that he didn't get nerve issues in his legs, but between the better blood sugars and the B12 he's getting, it seems to be helping. He's up on his toes a touch more these days. And definitely getting stronger, being able to launch himself up into his favorite scratching post again. He looked positively disgusted the first day he couldn't do that anymore. Teeger, on the other hand, was quite happy to keep it warm for him

From what I understand about human neuropathy is that those nerves can take time to heal, but getting the BG's down and treating with B12, you're giving him every chance to recovery from the neuropathy. That's wonderful to read that he's able to launch himself back up onto his favorite scratching post again! :joyful: When Eddie stopped taking the top spot on the cat stand, we figured there had just been an upset in the cat hierarchy, and he had lost his place as "top of the tree" cat, but in hindsight, it was probably the beginnings of some neuropathy. We're fortunate in that despite Eddie taking a full year to become tightly (or even remotely) regulated, he never had significant neuropathy resulting in weakness. But, it sure was a happy day when he re-took his rightful spot at the top of the stand. :cat:

Not quite there - up to 115 for AMPS. So it may have just been the depot that was bringing him down farther the last couple days. If he's still in the blues tonight, should I increase him to 0,5 again and see where he is without that extra bit of insulin from the depot? I think I'd probably wait until tomorrow morning after I can get a mix cycle reading tonight, just in case it's only the tail ends of the cycle that are a touch higher: he's still in the normal range - so far.
