I heard rustling in kitchen thought it was DH, I went to see why he was up and it was phoebe trying to stand up and couldnt. First time she's ever done that kinda flopped like fish until I could pick up her back legs onto the carpet. Gave her fluids, checked bg was 137, she's settled down now but wondering wth? She's gotten up and walked kinda stiff legged since. Going to vets in morning can not go to er vet.

NO idea but hugs and hugs Angela...my little elderly dog couldn't lift her front legs to come up the single stair this evening. We'll worry together, K?

Ty omg it's scary. It's like her back legs are doing the high step and she has no control of them. Maybe b12 shot?

She's trying to walk but walking in circles her right back foot keeps going hugh in the air then she flops down. What should I do? Is there anyone on from DCIN??

They are both affected just the right one is worse. Very unstable on her feet wobbles then gets off balance and then the back right leg comes up and turns circles until she falls down.

    I see adequan so yes.

    that's true....

i would try something like dragging a string slowly, or another toy just to see if she goes back to moving normally.
could have temporary dislocated a joint.....

can't see how she's walking, but you said she walked afterwards, stiffly.....

    sounds related...

I'd probably put her in a small area (or crate) with a soft bed and keep her as quiet as possible tonight

I know you'll check on her regularly

IF she's thrown a clot, you don't want her knocking any more loose (this is totally guessing though)

Echocardiogram would show any cardiac problems that may be related to possible blood clots etc. It's possible she may be having mild seizures and or blood clots getting lodged somewhere. It's so frightening when something like this happens. I hope she is ok.

You can offer her water every once in awhile and take her out and put her in the litter box.....but she should be able to hold it until morning unless she really needs to go

She can't do soft blankets I think the softness puts pressure on shoulders and she won't lay on anything soft.

i would think if it were a blood clot, she would have some of the other symptoms like breathing, dilated eyes.... but just mho.

this sounds an awful lot like a pinched nerve...
so relaxing her body would be helpful for that.

Shadow got where she couldn't handle soft any more either.
so let her get where she likes to lay ....

No...neuropathy gets worse (and better) slowly

I seriously doubt if missing the shot today has anything to do with what's going on now

That's what we thought at first. Maybe pooping issues pinched nerve, but then she pooped a big one, normal bug amount. Then this happened. After lb visit.

You can give her her b12 but I don't think this is related.
I don't think it has to be on a perfect schedule.....
    I never managed that.

neuropathy usually comes with higher numbers and uncontrolled diabetes.

tomorrow the vet can tell you what they think....
but for now, try to get her to think it's bed time..... settle in....

    and give her scritches....

You can check her paws to see if they are cold or warm. If any or one of them are ice cold then it could be a clot reducing blood flow to the limb. My Leo had a partial saddle thrombus in his back leg and his behavior was similar. They are usually in a lot of pain but Leo was not, so it depends if it's partial or total.

Good morning Phoebe and Angela. I think we can dismiss a B12 deficiency, it would not have such a sudden impact. The pinched nerve and/or mini-stroke both fit the bill but just like with humans they are hard to diagnose, harder yet when you can't talk back. I've had both, a pinched nerve is painful and depending on the severity Phoebe could have gone from a whimper to howling in pain. Was there any of that? Good news is that eventually the nerve will find it's place and go back to normal unless it's something like a crushed disk but then you'd know it. The stroke, don't get freaked by the words. It has an old school sound like Grandpa going face first into a bowl of soup. That is NOT what happens. If it's in the brain, like me, there's a headache (pressure on the brain) and then it gets complicated because every part of Phoebe's brain controls a different part of her body and her mind. If she knows who you are and responds to affection that is a huge sigh of relief. My stroke was from an aneurysm that bled and then stopped bleeding. This is the big unknown because CT and MRI do not detect blood flow so diagnosis is complicated.
Angela, you know how much we all love the both of you. I do not think this is that time. It's only been a short while and at 2:30 AM you said she was resting. But she's resting, not flopped over in your arms. Does she have bowel control? Has she expressed an interest in food? Have you slept yet? I'll be thinking really hard about this all day, my way of praying. You don't need to cry Angela, it's not time.

Just reading back through the posts. This happened to Kobiashi. A shriek of pain, some limping, then like it never happened. Again, a guess even by our vet but some similar symptoms and more likely to happen with age.

Good morning everyone so a few things. She was acting better this am. Still wobbly. Did not eat. Pooped in box then on herself.
Vet. Seems to think neurological issue. Did xrays, she has like the first 2 bones on her spine are totally ate up. There is no diffinition between the disks. Gave her some steroids. I asked them to clean her up and shave backside, in the process they found a mass cell tumor on her back left leg. Gonna watch and hope steroid shrinks that as well. She does not think phoebe is in good enough shape for surgery and it would be overy 500 dollars. Then on xrays there are questionable heart pics. It's rounded not enlarged. But could be the fluids I gave her last night. Some of the heart xrays look normal, a couple she's going to get the specialist to look at them and go from there. She has blood in her urine, gave antibiotic for infection. So after long night of babysitting my baby I'm exhausted. Gonna lay down for a bit. Thank you ever so much for your strength and love and support. Phoebe and I appreciate all the love. Right now she is resting too.

That sounds a lot better than when Cynthia realized that she, like her coworkers, felt better having a Post-It over her take-home-laptop camera. That's a creepy Peekaboo story and it's true. If Phoebe needs BUPE remember that Noah gets the transdermal and it makes his life a whole lot better. He hated the oral, like vertical blinds.

My older cat has some bridging arthritis in her back, and every once in a while she'll have a day where she can't get up and stumbles or limps all day. Then boom, she's back to normal. With the spinal issues, even a small amount of inflammation can cause a nerve to be pinched, and could cause pain, weakness, or numbness depending on what's compressed. Steroids and rest usually is the treatment. Some vets prescribe anti-inflammatory meds but they aren't really recommended for cats as they damage the kidneys. Every time it happens, I am thinking the worst, then next day it's like back to the same old happy cat.

Sounds like it was a mast cell tumor. Ones on the skin are relatively harmless in the short term. I have had several surgically removed on several of my cats.

I hope Phoebe is feeling better soon and continues to regain her mobility. In addition to the mast cell tumour, it is possible there is something neurological. It's not that common, but neurological issues do happen with some acros if the pituitary tumour grows to a size it pushes on other parts of the brain. Circling is one symptom, but it's a good sign that Phoebe seems to be improving.

Yes, could be a mast cell tumor like Larry said. I had several removed from Leo last year. They were benign and the surgery is easy for the vet to do.

Ty for the apple. :) patient is a little reserved today, vet says give her steroid every other day unless there is an episode before that. Good gawd I hope not. Bg is up today, and appy not great. I know steroids make me clean out cabinets and frigerator. But not helping hers. I like igloos!

Stupid igloo, every time I bake cookies the ceiling drips. ;) I wonder if that happens to Tracey's igloo. "Oh Canada, we stand on cars and freeze. Through patriot earmuffs...." Phoebes, the weekend is almost here. Mama has lots of love for you, be good okay. :D

That's funny that you ask about the teacher thing, people have asked me that many times before. I did teach the local daycare what a Border Collie could do. Eventually they accepted me walking through off leash. I've also read books at another daycare, the Paper Bag Princess, Walter the Farting Dog. At the one at my last job I asked if they thought adults had Teddy Bears and Blankies. I mean, if they don't see them where did they go? Then I pulled out my 55 year old Bobo, a monkey I got in Holland. Their jaws dropped. I miss that dog so much. We're getting another Collie before winter, we've waited long enough.

I think I read that! I've heard border collies are great droolers. Smart too. It's amazing how much these animals take with us when they go, and how much they give while still here.
I have my baby blanket. Used it on my kids and it's still in great shape. I miss my stuffed hog, porker.
