Good morning everyone
There has been more developments since my last post on Fistuk's teeth inflammation and blood test results.
The 5 days AB are finished now and I'm really so happy it didn't give him a massive diarrhoea as it normally does. He did have some soft topping on his baked good which left him at times mucky but it was very mild.
It made him more alert, a bit more active and more engaged. So clearly he just suffered quietly from the inflammation for quite a while.
I found a cat only vet clinic and have been in contact with them to get Fistuk's Xray and possible a surgery to extract the canine teeth. I had to first do a detective work to find the vet who extracted his teeth in 2018. Luckily it was rather easy and sent out the file quickly.
BUT. To the cats' vet request we got the proBNP from his latest blood sample (I was happy the lab still had it). It's 130 which indicates some heart problems.
Together with the diabetes, kidney, pancreas and elevate liver values the vet said there's a small risk of heart arrest in the weeks after the surgery or internal organs complications.
after further inquiry I began to feel more confident taking that risk. To my questions, the vet told me that on similar cases they had one loss in the past year and over the past two years she's been operating on cats with difficult heart problems 4-6 timey every week. I saw on her website that she's specialising in cat's sedation.
I still haven't made a finally decision and also we need to find the budget. She estimated that together with Xray and the rets of the media and surgery it'll be in the 1.5-2K area. Auch!
I bumped into my neighbours yesterday. Normally they give me a polite Swiss hello and move on but yesterday, accompanied by their dog they stopped for a quick chat. They dog had CKD and they expressed great appreciation to their vet and said "he has os many cats clients, always so many cats there". So I thought I'd give it a go and ask for another quote. I will have to feel also confident that this vet knows what they're doing in terms of sedation. So my detective work to do.
For the moment I'm enjoying Fistuk's elevated energy and that his face looks more plump with less tension but also with mum shoving some extra food with syringe into him so he gain gain a bit of weight
His BG is rather regulated. There's a regular blue bump at +3 Am cycle but it's the least of my worries at the moment. I'm not changing the dose until we've figured out the teeth situation.
Hope everyone's getting some good end of year rest.
Much love
