yesterday's post

Last night was a night of greens, the first long stretch we've had for a month and the first on this dose. I decided to supplement the first few hours with one tsp of MC food since he dropped fairly early (65 @+2), and I didn't want him going too low. He has bounced back up this a.m., but not too high. I hope we see some greens again today.

I warmed Jude's insulin this morning between my fingers. I noticed that as soon as I pushed the plunger, he flinched (but no biting thank goodness). I'll keep working on strategies to make this easier on him, but I'm thinking it's the insulin stinging him. He's trying his best.

Have a great Thursday, everyone!

Edited to add: I also changed his shot location from the flank to the scruff this morning. I have avoided the scruff because I've heard it's fattier and, therefore, the absorption might not be as effective. I think the location change was easier for him, but not significantly.

So happy to see the green streak and more blue and green overall! Nice.

I found this little blurb about the Lantus sting. It implies that depth of injection could matter. Also size of dose. This must be another great example of ecid as I shoot 7.5 into Minner and I don’t think it stings (knock on wood). It does however seem to irritate her starting about 20min afterwards, she tries to lick/groom the injection sites.

Do you think the sting is more recent since you are at higher dose?

Interesting. And, yes, this is what Colleen was saying last night about the Ph in the insulin (and it stings humans, too, she said). Here's my question: what is "injected into the skin" vs. injected "under the skin." I mean, technique wise? I wonder what that means and how I should be holding the needle to ensure I get it "under the skin."I grab and roll Jude's fur to inject. This works better for me than the tent maneuver because I can see the needle going into the skin and I can't with the tent. I wonder if I should go back to the tent method. I just can't see as well with it--see whether the needle is under the skin--and I run the risk of a fur shot.

Edited to add: Perhaps it is worse now that he is at a higher dose. I can't completely remember when the "biting" during dosing started. But you might be onto something.

Also, whut. a. LATE. NIGHT. Am so tired today. But, then, you know, since you often have those nights as well.

I’m only just now, 7 months into this, ok injecting w/o seeing needle puncture skin, but I still prefer it. So I keep areas on each side of her shaved. I know she won’t win a beauty contest w/ my shaving hack job, but I care more about keeping her healthy than appearance of some small shaved spots. I do tent method and usually pull up using fur right above shaved area and then inject near bottom of tent angled slightly down. I also push hard enough to know the needle is fully inserted and I can feel the syringe is fully flush with her skin.

Okay, I'm going to try the shave method. I think that must help (the shaved fur) to see that the needle is actually going in. Tonight, I shot him in his scruff (as I did this morning), and he wasn't as reactive. That said, as soon as that plunger eased in, and I ease it so slowly, he flinched. And I warmed it really well--I put it between my ear warming rice-filled-baby-mittens. I really think it stings. No biting tonight though, thankfully.
