Yesterday Another bad day for my Boomer yesterday. Although he took a few sips of the liver shake yesterday morning, he wouldn't eat anything for the rest of the day. I syringed. When I offered chicken soup, he would quite often drink. This morning I offered chicken soup right away and he had a long drink. Gave bupre....am increasing bupre to 3 times a day. Tried liver shake an hour later but he wouldn't take it on his own however he didn't object when I syringed it. Need to make some fresh chicken soup and liver shake this morning; he has always loved freshly cooked chicken so I'm hoping it will wet his appy.
Thinking of you and Boomer. This must be so difficult but you’re doing a great job of taking care of the little guy.
It's so darned hard to get them to eat when they feel bad. Sending appy vines for Boomer and hugs to you.
I hope the bupre makes him feel a bit better so he'll eat. Prayers, vines and hugs to you and your DH, Judy.
Sending some appetite vibes for Boomer, I hope the increase of bupre helps him feel better and that he will eat for you. thinking of yas
Judy, you are doing a marvelous job taking care of beautiful Boomer. Your love and devotion to him is touching. Prayers for you all, every single day I hope the fresh chicken smell is enticing enough for Boomer to enjoy some. And more bupre -wishes for a better day.
@Wendy&Neko @Linda and Bear Man @tiffmaxee Dr Larry agreed to call in a script for Ondansetron so I'll be picking up hopefully soon. I can give both cerenia and ondansetron together? I've also increased (with Dr Larry's approval) the buprenorphine to .2ml 3 times a day; he had been receiving it 2 times a day.
Vines that the change in meds will help Boomer feel better and eat; and take some the stress off you and the DH. IMHO, let Boomer eat anything he will eat even if it means Fancy Feast gravy. Coming out of remission is the least of the worries.
Yes you can give both at the same time. I hope it helps him feel better. edited to add: perhaps you could try picking up a can or two of Royal Canin Recovery food. It has a thin consistency and can be further thinned for syringe feeding.
Ondansetron doesn’t last as long, you will have to give it 2-3 times a day, while the Cerenia is just once a day.
Going to pick up now, dosing instructions are 3 times a day. Also starting lactulose today since Boomer hasn't pooped in two days and before that only tiny poops.
Hill's a/d rx food is a favorite here, it things out well for syringing. Remember is high carb though. But Boomer needs to eat.
Since onda is a powerful anti-nausea drug used for chemo patients, hopefully it will help Boomer. Poop vines added to all the other vines, too.....
Sending strong vines for Boomer and hoping that the new meds will help him to feel better and eat. Thinking of you all, Big hugs
If it works just accept it, right Boomer? Nasty little birds anyways... Hugs and prayers are a given. 92 days to April 15, then Boomer can roll around in the grass. That's always the day I shoot for, just hate this time of year.
I sure hope the excellent nursing care you're providing helps Boomer to feel better...and freshly cooked chicken..yumm...eat up Boomer ... sending hugs to you
Peeked in on him, he was missing from the bed. He was laying on the floor....walked into the room and i could smell...urine. He had peed on his pillow. My poor little boy.
...poor little guy. When my GA civvie, Frankie, would get backed up one of her symptoms was peeing in cat beds. Praying that the onda and lactulose help settle his tummy and get things moving so that he'll feel better again.....
Nothing is helping my boy. I offered him some liver shake about 1.5 hours after the ondansetron (and he's had cerenia as well). Turned away. I tried to syringe....he cried. This is breaking my heart.
My heart is breaking, too. Am sending heaps of hugs and vines for you all. I wish I had a magic wand. I agree that whatever Boomer will accept food-wise is a blessing, whatever the acceptance is at any given moment. Been there so many times. Just an idea: Would a bit of plain kefir or slightly diluted plain yogurt either added to liver shake or on its own mixed with some spirulina help soothe his gi and help to mitigate any constipation? ❤️❤️❤️
Oh Judy, my heart breaks for you. When the fluid built up on Max nothing got hm eating. Can it be drained againif it’s built up? For Max it was his heart and not cancer so I don’t know about that type of fluid buildup.
Oh Judy, I am so sorry Boomer is not doing well. Just reading through this thread hurt my heart. I'm sending more vines for Boomer and some hugs for you.
Thinking of you Judy. I can relate to how your heart must be breaking at this point. Come on Boomer, let’s have a rally for momma tomorrow. Frozen, snow covered feel better vines from BC winging over the Rockies.
Judy it’s been hard reading through these posts as well. I feel your agony with Boomer. It’s very difficult for us when our fur babies won’t eat much. You’ve done quite a lot for Boomer with your excellent nursing care and vigilant fight through four remissions. That is quite an accomplishment for one person to have ascertained!! From your appetite reports previously, I’m not quite sure that Boomer is constipated however. It’s seems that his intake may not be enough to be producing poop as he would normally have had in the past. It’s just a thought though. Have you looked into Purina CN? It’s like Hill’s ad but 9%carbs. It is liver based although it has byproducts but getting some food in at this point is more important , I think. Keeping you and Boomer in my prayers.
Just reading through your posts and teats are flowing for your sweet little boy. I pray he starts to eat for you, my heart is breaking for you and your baby
