Even though Shadoe is starting in the reds today, she is very bright eyed and bouncy this morn. About the only indication of being high is that she is a wee bit on the hungry side this morn. She has eaten less than 1/4can ff chicken heart & liver dinner, and is now chowing down on 1/4 of SophCat Elegant Entree (in a less than elegant style). She did leave half of the SC in her dish, so she's not crazy ravenous.

As we have crossed into the above 5u area, I'll gather up some info and print out some nice colorful ss, then talk to the vet's about testing for a few things, including suggestions by Jill and Libby for Acromegaly, Cushings, and Insulin Auto Antibodies (IAA). Better safe than sorry, to be sure.

For now, Shadoe's done with food, all preened and cleaned and is now stretched out on one of her rugs, purring up a storm, just the picture of Life is Good. I am off to work shortly and we will pick up with the poking tonite.

Happy day and nice numbers to all kitties and beans.

Oh Shadow, you silly kitty, you're headed the wrong way!!! confused_cat I'm glad you are going to get those tests done but Shadoe seems to be so "normal" I doubt it's anything to worry about. Love reading your daily reports on Shadoe...it's almost like being there. bcatrun_gif bcatrun_gif bcatrun_gif

Brenda, Thanks for your reassurances; they do help.

If there is one very important thing I have learned over the years about health, it's this:

Too many things have no symptoms. Too many things are silent killers. Know when it's time to get something checked and nip any problems in the bud instead of waiting till the oh geez, now what? stage of the game.

And that goes for 2 legged and 4 legged beings!

Have a great day and Morris, I hope you have a marvelous day as well.

Hi Gayle
I hope thinks went better with Shadoe today. Looking
to see an update. I totally agree with you about those "silent killers"
I hate not having answers too. One question always leads to another.
Hope all is well in TO?

Steady as she goes - new dose, back up to a few reds.
Oh wait, it's not that new of a dose, cycle 5. Crap.

Ah well, we'll just keep pokin' along LOL. I'll read up on the weekend, print out Shadoe's ss and some docs on the things I want tested, then take it over to the vet's to look over, study and then decide what we need to check and do.

Shadoe's still totally feeling fine, but I am noticing a big relaxing after her shots, as if she was recognizing that she was feeling crappy at ps time, and she also knows that the shots make her feel much better. She gets her shot and she'll be flipped out and on her back like a drunk in the park in the summertime. There is no way it starts working as fast as she changes. What a silly kitty.

Just a couple pokes tonite and we will be off to bed.

Scratches for the kitties.

glad you're considering the tests, it can't hurt and if anything does come back positive we can get aggressive and get her numbers down. I would probably start with the IAA and Acro tests (I understand that it is cheaper/easier to do them together since they go to the same lab). You might PM Leslie and Bayley, I believe she is having those tests done this week and she may be able to tell you what it costs and what lab the tests were sent to (I think she found that it was different in Canada than the US). Most likely you will need to send the information to your vet to read, because they probably do not know much about those conditions.

Hopefully Shadoe doesn't have any of them and is just a little thirsty, but it's always good to know for sure. ((((Gayle))))

I couldn't agree with you and Libby more. Having knowledge and information is rarely a bad thing -- unless you like keeping your head in the sand.

I agree with the rest here, before Shadoe creeps up any further in dose, be safe rather than sorry - to know if there is anything else going on.

I feel for you Gayle, but I'm still hoping she will breakthru ((hugs))

some kitties do require higher doses of insulin. shadoe may be one of these kitties. there have been several i can think of right off the top of my head who have been in that 5u - 6u range before breaking through the high numbers. one of the pluses of having the acro and IAA tests done is knowing would give us a green light to become more aggressive with dosing...

I'm still curious if the fact that Shadoe is intact is playing any role in the increased amount of insulin, simply because the sex hormones are natural steroids. Steroids cause insulin resistance (even the body's naturally occurring ones) and higher doses are needed in their presence. The Acro and IAA testing is a good idea to just rule those in/out, though.

I like that she is the picture of life is good. :-D Very nice WCR!
