Re: 1/22 Jake AMPS 232 +5 241...menu...

Well....i did my math this morning about Jake's weight, callories and amoun of food + time. Uh...big job for my old brain.
OK,who is interested to read:

Jake is at 18lb now. iwant him to get to 15 lb(i'll try very hard).
To get to 15 lb he needs 274 cal daily (that's 1 1/4 of wellnes 5.5 oz food).
I split that into 6 small meals (every 4 hrs 45 cal or lil less tahn 1/4 can)
I'm gonna feed him at AM and PM and between that--TIMED FEEDER (+4 and +8)
I have lil small plastic containers and prepared foo for that day and stick with it.
Promise I will start tomorrow at 5:00 am. I got enough.
Menu for tomorrow is ready. Don't know how Big Boy is gonna like it. He'll get used to it.
Wish him good like on loosing weight. He is so sweet and I want the best for him!
have a great afternoon,everyone!

Re: 1/22 Jake AMPS 232..Jake's menu for loosing weight

Ronnie, dessert? Well we gonna steal from reg. dish.( just for test time)
maybe some boiled chicken. have to be very strict! Like jake to be nice and 'slim' for summer!

Re: 1/22 Jake AMPS 232..Jake's menu for loosing weight

Thanks for doing the math! Fluffy needs to be on the same diet, lol. He is 18+ pounds. :o

Good luck!

Re: 1/22 Jake AMPS 232..Jake's menu for loosing weight

Good luck with the diet - hope you have a good pair of ear plugs ready and watch out for the constant under foot syndrome. My civvie is a little cat that looks at food and gets tubby. She just about knocks me down and drags me to the kitchen in anticipation of food.

Re: 1/22 Jake AMPS 232..Jake's menu for loosing weight

Porky is part of the "extra fluffy" crowd, too!

Or, as I like to say, Porky is in great shape - round is a shape, you know!

He also should be around 15 pounds, and is currently 19.3. I've been feeding him 3 cans of FF per day, split into 6 meals. I rotate between 4 flavors, each one is around 90-100 calories per can, so I figure he's getting about 270 calories a day.

And he gets some freeze-dried chicken treats twice a day - he LOVES them - he nearly takes my finger off trying to get at them! :-D

Good luck with the diet!

Re: 1/22 Jake AMPS 232..Jake's menu for loosing weight

Ummm..... do you give Jake any food over night? If not, he may want to chew your arm off in the morning!

Not to make this tougher, but is the amount of calories you want to feed what the calorie count would be for Bo's ideal weight? If so, you might want to gradually reduce the calorie count as Bo loses weight. For example, look at the difference between the calories of what you currently feed vs. what you would feed at Jake's ideal weight. Initially, give him 3/4 of that amount so he gets used to a slightly reduced amount of calories. After a month or two, reduce it by another 25%, and so on. It's kind of like the approach that Weight Watchers uses. As you lose weight, you are allowed fewer "points" rather than taking a drastic reduction that would leave you (or Jake) starving.

Just my 2 cents...

I agree with Sienne, except for the %s. I think Dr Lisa recommends reducing by 20% - been some time since I read her site. But here's the link http://catinfo.org/feline_obesity.htm#I ... ss_Program Please realize that "HL (hepatic lipidosis ) can become an issue if weight loss occurs too rapidly in cats."

Jake PMps 228 +6 75....

thank You WCF for the link about safe weight loss. I just test jake and he was so desperate for food so i gave him
about 2 full tsp of poiled blended (like baby food)chicken breast. I had to givein before timed feeder open.Jeeez!

sorry about the diet, Jake, I don't like them either. Mom is doing it because she loves you.

I agree with shaving off a little of his food at a time. Losing weight gradually is better, and maybe he won't think he's starving.
