Yesterday's condo

Tess's AMPS was 244. She ate pretty well too, for her! I was afraid with the steady rise she would be up in the pinks or even red.

Tess came in in early morning again to waked us up. She does seem to be getting finicky about food that has been sitting out.

Re: 1/25 Tess AMPS ~244 +4~162

Into the blues right on schedule, Such a good girl! cat_pet_icon
Tess is relaxed and looking contented, she is eating a bit more and going out to snack a little too. Only drinking about 1/2 cup of extra water/day now and pee is less too. Still having trouble getting ketone tests. Maybe nonabsorbent litter is the answer, but that change could cause it's own set of problems.

Re: 1/25 Tess AMPS ~244 +4~162 +7~108

Catching up. Had to go and shop for more catfood. Nice and blue this afternoon and more interested in eating.

Re: SHOOT??? 1/25 Tess PMPS 94

Well, here we are again. Should I wait 15 or 30 and see if she is surfing aor comes up?

Recap for today: AMPS~244, +4~162, +7~108, +10~118 and PMPS 94. She had been eating after the morning shot , but not much after +8 except a dried liver treat after the BG test.

Re: SHOOT??? 1/25 Tess PMPS 94

Hi Ann!!

Hang in there for help. Get a 15 min test when you can if no gets to you first, ok?

Re: SHOOT??? 1/25 Tess PMPS 94

will you be able to monitor tonight? I would probably retest in about 15 minutes and if she's rising or surfing, then shoot. However, that is only if you're able to monitor tonight. Tess is getting close to needing another dose reduction so she might be heading for the 40's tonight - are you ready for that?

Re: SHOOT??? 1/25 Tess PMPS 94

Just retested and she is at 93 at +12;20

yes we can monitor, and I will be biting my nails if she gets that low but we're ready. The shot will be 15 min late. Will that effect?

Re: SHOOT??? 1/25 Tess PMPS 94

15 minutes is ok, shouldn't affect much.

Tess is surfing, not dropping. You can shoot whenever you feel confident to do it! Then I would get a +1 and +2 to see where she is going. That will give you plenty of time to help her cycle with food - any time she is dropping more than you like, feed her a couple tsp. of food. Generally I go for low carb first, and if that doesn't slow her down then high carb. 40's you can high carb for sure.

Re: SHOOT??? 1/25 Tess PMPS 94

Ok we shot at 20 min past due time and she is eating really well. Will test in 1 hour.

Re: 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53

She's gone down to 53 at +1, but we've got her eating Friskies 7% carb w/ some dehydrated beef liver powdered on top. She's really going for it. Test again in 30 or 1 hour?

Re: 1/25 Tess PMPS 94

Would test at 15 while she is going down, Ann.

Hold on for more experienced help...you're doing great!

Re: 1/25 Tess PMPS 94

Tess ate about 3/4oz of Evo (2%) when she got her shot and about 3/4 oz of Friskies at +1. The also had some roast chicken (from my dinner) in between. She's looking fine and having an after din bath.

OK the 15 is about now.

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.15~56

Tess is fine, Ann.
Just want experienced eyes to help you if she should drop again.

Tess at +1.40 down again to 45 fed again

ann, just posted but subject line was old.
looks like time for at least a lick of HC gravy. do you have some higher carb canned food?
worried she'll overeat and get stuffed so it might be time for a little HC. even a bite or two will probably be enough, or just the licks from the gravy.

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.15~56

Has Tess earned a dosecrease tonight? She is a newly treated diabetic, right? Under 50 at the last test. Since she has probably earned the dosecrease already - I often see some of the experienced folk tell people that since the dosecrease has already been earned - you don't need to prove anything else. Feed this number - use HC gravy, especially since it is still early in the cycle. Not sure who is on board right now - but great job!

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.15~56

She's wolfing it down, not high carb 7% friskies. Added a little Hc. What about Nutrical Supplement, first ingred. iscorn syrup.

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1.40~45

sugar often leads to a quick spike then numbers drop again, so i wouldn't bother with that til you can't get her to eat.
point of HC wet is better spike quicker so she doesn't have to eat as much for BGs to go up.
i'd hold off on the nutrical til later if you need it.

what's her normal nadir? that's what we're aiming for. a little bite of HC every time you test, if she's still low, will probably keep her surfing. just don't want to stuff her.

[edited to say normally i'd start with regular LC to see if that brings her up. the reason for the HC is that she continued to go down and this early in the cycle we don't want her to get stuffed and not be able to eat later if she needs to. she may be ready to surf now so i wouldn't give HC again unless she goes down again or stays in the 40s. she's definitely earned a little decrease. :)]

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.15~56

That's the problem, she has a really late nadir, around +7 or+8. How often to test till then?

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.15~56

The higher carb food contains gravy--That is what brings up the bg's- You want the gravy to go into her..-dont feed too much or she wont eat!--Do you have any HC treats like temptations? I use them sometimes when Moonie refuses to eat anything, and is going low...
What a great bunch of numbers tonite!!! Wow GREEN!!!
What is the highest carb food you have?

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.40~45, +2~64

i'd suggest one more test in 15 min and if she's still up there test again in half an hour.
i wouldn't worry about HC again just yet unless you're exhausted and can't be up much longer, or she drops again.

[edited to add: i'd expect to test thru nadir at least, and longer if she's below 55. we're mainly looking for 2 consecutive numbers above 60]

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.15~56

Just how low is panic time? Under 40? Tess is a little drama queen at night isn't she.

Every time I see Cleo's condo I get a little jolt. I had a Cleo, lost her 8 years ago to crf.

Roni. the highest is Hills WD, 26% carb. Which the ex-vet sold me as good for her diabetes.

WE can stay up, Im a night owl. Don't know if I'll make it to nadir +7 to8 (4:00 - 5:00 am)

Time to test

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.15~56 +2~64, +2.15~

Dropped a little to 61, that could be meter variance? Gave a little more gravy.

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.40~45, +2~64

awww, well you can think of mine as Baby Cleo. she like the name Baby better anyway. she's 16 and people at the vet office always think she's around 8. :)

no need to panic at all. we have all the tools we need as long as you have regular cat food and high carb cat food in the house. :)

is she showing any other symptoms beside hunger? when cleo has hypoed on lantus she's acted just fine except for hunger occasionally. with PZI her symptoms were more extreme. i think i'd feel ok as long as she didn't drop below 39. we've seen plenty of kitties even lower, tho.

[ETA: i think gravy was a good choice if she dropped again. just a tad, tho. she's doing great and so are you. :)]

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.15~56

Should I take the HELP subject out now?

Tess is still looking fine, grooming herself. She's not looking for food, but doesn't hesitate when it's put before her.

1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.40~45, +2.25~61

sure, take the help out as long as you have eyes here unless you need more support.

tess seems to be doing just fine.

Re: Help!! 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.15~56

Tess got impatient and just refreshed the page so you last post showed up.

She's gone to the kitchen to get a drink, now looking out the window. Just getting ready for another test....... +2:40 is 62 gave a little more gravy.

1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.40~45, +2.40~62

i've been hoping she'd surf and it looks like that's just what she's doing. (and i think she knows it, too!)
looking good. :)
gotta keep monitoring her at least closer to normal nadir but what you are doing is working, so give yourself a big pat on the back.

Re: 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.40~45, +2.40~62

i would wait a half hour (i'd wait longer if she were closer to nadir), and if she's still in the 60s at that point i'd wait another hour before the next test (or even set alarm and just test at nadir but leave her food in case she needs it).
i don't feel a strong need to test as long as she's still in the 60s. just notice if she wants to eat sooner, tho.

Re: 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.15~56

Looks like Tess is doing great & pats on the back for a job well done, Ann! :thumbup

This night owl from the east coast is off to bed. ;-) ni-ni & happy surfing!!!!!!

Re: 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, ............+3~71

Just tested +3 up to 71, we put out food to see if she wants it. She's not looking for food right now. Just did a good poop, too.

I think I'll wait an hour for the next test. Then a light feeding?

Re: 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.40~45, +3~71

if you want to wait til nadir to test, i'd just set alarm and do that, ann.
otherwise, maybe in a couple hrs then off to bed? just want to get one more test in by nadir but i think she's surfing or going up. just leave a little food out.

Re: 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, +1.15~56

I have to finish the newsletter that didn't get done when all this started, so I'll stay up till +5, then get up at +7 for a test.

Libby, Joyce and Chris all mentioned a dosecrease. Tomorrow am? To .5u?

Re: 1/25 Tess PMPS 94 +1~53, ............+3~71

yep, next shot i'd go to 0.5u. you can always go back up if the next couple of tests she runs too high.
but so far she's taken her dose decreases very well.

(if your next test is in 70 or higher i wouldn't bother to test again til next shot unless you want to. only reason i thought so earlier is because it took HC to bring her up, but generally we feel good if they have two consecutive tests 20 pts higher than that low without needing HC.)

Just did a +5 and it was 113 :-D and she hadn't had anything except 1/8 to 1/4 tsp gravy at +2. So, bedtime.

Thanks so much for sticking with me.

wow, nice job Ann, and congrats on the dose reduction. Sorry I disappeared on you, I fell asleep. The nice thing about LL is that there is always someone around to help.
