It's official: Kitty has passed his one-year anniversary since diagnosis.
It is painful for me to think about how little I knew then, and the mistakes I made. For four months, I left him in the care of a vet who prescribed one shot of Lantus per day, at any time of the day convenient for us, along with a dry food diet and bi-weekly trips for blood checks. Those of you who know us know that Kitty was up to 10 units once daily, and was nearly a goner, before I figured out that I needed to take charge.
But he's a tough guy, and since we found our home here in Lantus Land last June, set on our new course with test training by Jill ( o
) and patient noodles from Jojo ( o
), he has done so very well. We owe Kitty's current beautiful green health entirely to all of you who have so patiently, kindly taught us the way, and to all who have cheered us on through the fears and confusion and that steep, steep learning curve. (Mt. Lantus, I think it's called!)
I still make mistakes. (Like, um, this morning, my first time measuring this new dose, I may have possibly perhaps measured just a teeny bit less than DH did this weekend.) But we have a purry, green kitty today, and I want everyone to know how grateful I am to you all.
To acknowledge this anniversary -- and also, because Kitty's "birthday" (the anniversary of when we found him) is February 14 -- it's time to share that Kitty has more interesting nicknames than just "Kitty."
One of our favorites is Buzz. Buzzster. Buzzmeister. Buzzman. BuzzieBoy. Buzzer. (Also, Buzzielicious, though Kitty and DH both think that's beneath his dignity.)
So if you see someone by the name of Buzzerama or Buzzer-uzzer in this condo, you'll know we're talking about our sweet, blue-eyed Kitty.
Thank you, everyone, for bringing Kitty safely to this point.
