WCR: All's well. Hungry Hungry kitty. 5 P's are good. She inhaled 7am breakfast again...and puked. DH waited a bit a then fed a bit more. That stayed down as did her brunch (with her shot). We leave 2 big spoons of food for her overnight, mixed with water, but most of the time she eats it right when we give it to her and by the time the sun comes up, she is starving! I'm going to get a self feeder today, any suggestions on brands?

I am home all day today, I have to go to TBP from 6-9pm, but DH is home to feed her. Any suggestions on spot checks that might be important today?

This lower number makes me think her insulin is ok, but I think I'm going to replace it anyway. We've been using it for over 3 months.

ouch too bad for the pukey - I have another suggestion on that...maybe you are already doing it - but just in case,,,,when you serve her food, is it slightly warmed up? Either by micro or a bit of warm tap water?
Some kitties will have a sensitive tummy if there are no other known health concerns A) eating too fast B) cold food

For the feeders a lot of people use this one, available at Petsmart stores or online, also holds wet food pretty good I hear.

Nice AMPS today - did u happen to grab a +1? A +3 would be good too.

AMPS 119 +2 90

Thank you Ronnie! That is the one I was looking at. It was between that one and another, but the other had bad reviews. I'm going to order it today. They sell it locally, but it's $20 cheaper on Amazon. We can wait a few days.

DH uses warm water and mixes it in with her food. That doesn't make it room temperature, but it helps. Maybe when the cold hits her very empty belly, it upsets it? It only happens in the morning. We'll try microwaving it a bit tomorrow morning.

I didn't get a +1, but I got a +2 of 90! Currently, she is walking around, meowing, looking for more food, I think.

Should I get a +3 as well? I just fed her after the +2. Maybe a +4? She eats every 2 hours, just a small spoon most of the time, bigger spoons for her main meals 3 times a day. I try to time her checks around the eating...so as to not waste the strips with a food spike number. I get confused with which checks to get. Cassandra always says that any checks are helpful, and I've been trying to get the random checks, but the data sticky says there are some "useless" ones and I feel like I don't yet have enough data. I really want to be prepared for the next low PS!

Re: AMPS 119 +2 90

+3 for sure
since ur home, fill in the blanks a bit, depending what +3 goes like, u may need a +5 and/or +6 since u have none for a couple of days now in the AM cycle...post here and yell for help if u need it.

+11 near the end of a cycle will give u an hour head start to see where she may be going by PMPS time

Hi Sara. Wow, that's a nice AMPS today. Looks like a really good day is shaping up here! :-D

The link that Ronnie posted showing the PetSafe auto feeder are the ones I use. I've had two of them for more than a year and they have worked out great. I haven't even changed the batteries yet... but I think I will as one of them is moving a bit slower - after all it has been a YEAR!

My kitties can hear the sound of the motor turning and they run to the kitchen. The first day they were surprised at the sound, but since they were hungry they figured out pretty quickly that the noise meant good things... like food! I find it very helpful for overnight/morning feeding so I can sleep late if I want. If I'm home during the day I sometimes use a regular bowl, but the kitties still look in the auto feeder as if to say... no, no.. put it in HERE.

Because the feeder is well made they cannot break into it the way they could another brand. And it keeps the food moist. I add a little water to the food, but I do that anyway for my kitties health.

I think you will be happy with the PetSafe.

I'm working on a project and time gets away from me very easily. Lydia, let's keep them in cahoots, as long as they have great numbers. I wouldn't want Magnolia to be a bad influence on Basil, he is doing so well!

Thank you again, for the info Ronnie. I missed +3, but I got a +3.5, 79. Since she ate at +2, I'm going to get another one at +4.5 before I feed her again. She is STARVING. Every time I move, she runs to the kitchen! If I feed at +4.5, will her +6 be tainted? Should I feed at another time?

And thank you Carolyn, that info is super helpful! A few reviews for that feeder said the batteries died in a week and that it was poorly built. I had planned to stop by the local pet store to check it out in person and order it later, but I might skip that. Do you ever use ice packs overnight? This one doesn't come with them, but I read that you can use them with it. I'm going to use it mostly overnight but also on days when both I and DH are gone for extended hours. We're testing a spoon of canned food right now, we left it out and we're going to see how it looks in 7 hours, but I am really thinking we'll need ice packs to keep the food safe overnight.

The day is shaping up very nicely. The hungry and the feeding and the testing seems to be giving me some trouble though, but I can deal with it, as long as if it means a nice green surf for her!

AMPS 119, +2 90, +3.5 78, +4.25 85

I went ahead and tested and fed her, she was so so hungry! With lower numbers, I expect her appetite to diminish. I'm not sure what's going on with her. But her numbers are nice!

Ate at +9, AMPS, +2, +4.25 so far. Maybe I'll get a 6.5 and feed again, if she is still starving.

I haven't fed her since +4.25 because she hasn't asked for a snack. She's' been napping. She is extra cuddly this afternoon, I hate that I have to leave soon. I'll get a +11 tonight and I will tell DH not to feed after +8.5. ;-) I'm getting the hang of it. Thank you to everyone for helping me.

Very nice numbers for Magnolia today. Good luck with the timed feeder. I always wished I could do that for Max but with all the kittens in the house he would never make it to the feeder before it was devoured by the rest of the herd.

We are both having a good day!

I guess we are lucky we just have the one kitty. I couldn't imagine trying to manage FD with many cats. I don't know how you do it!

About the PetSafe feeder.... I haven't tried placing a cold pack in it. There is an indentation under the front section where it looks like you could place a cold pack if it was the right size. But it would only be cold at the current (open) section. I often leave food in there for about 11 hours since I fill it around 10 or 11pm and the last section opens at 9am. Because it is almost completely closed... not quite airtight... the food stays pretty moist. I don't see a dry layer of food on top or anything. When I've had to leave for longer times, I set it to open 5 times during 24 hours and I use frozen pucks of food and allow them to thaw, but I don't do that for just overnight stuff. Because it is digital I can time both feeders to open within a few seconds of each other so both kitties have food at the same time. That is very nice.

Magnolia is continuing with the pretty numbers today I see. That's terrific!

Thanks Carolyn. I will not be using it for periods longer than 11 hours, so that will work out a-ok. I placed my order earlier, it should be here in the next week. Do you take the canned food an create little frozen pucks? That's a good idea...I wonder if I can try that in the meantime. I have a feeling she would just try to chew on the frozen puck before it has a chance to thaw! But I am going to try it tonight anyway.

Fingers and paws crossed that she is not bouncing into the pinks when I get home tonight.

Yes, that's what I do.

I get a jelly-roll pan (like a cookie sheet with raised edges on all 4 sides.) Line it with plastic wrap and then put out cans of Fancy Feast all in rows. Then I use a butter knife or spatula and carefully cut each round of FF in half and gently separate the halves. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze on the cookie sheet. When they are frozen I peel them off the plastic wrap and drop all of them into a freezer bag and stick the bag back in the freezer. I try to get the frozen liquids (broth?) from the cans that has run out on the pan and stick that in the freezer bag too. When I need one or two or three, I just grab what I need and put them into the feeder with a bit of water (and some of the icy broth pieces too.) By the time the feeder rotates, the food is thawed out enough to eat.

Some people carefully mix water in with the food first and put this mixture into ice cube trays until frozen and then into a freezer bag. I'm lazy and skip that mixing step.

+11 184

I will try that Carolyn, thank you. I'm lazy too, we'll see how it works out. First, I'll see how it goes tonight. When we were still feeding raw, she wouldn't touch the frozen pucks, but so much has changed since then...

We LOVE the staying low. We do NOT love not eating past +8.5. I got home at +11 and she's been harassing me since I walked in the door. Meows, headbutts, purring...she's really putting on a show. I did give her one freeze dried salmon treat when I tested her, but I think that's ok. Only 45 more minutes to go. And I refuse to eat in front of her if she's hungry, so I've gone without my dinner too. :o

PMPS 221

It was a nice surf, but I guess it had to come to an end eventually. Surfing is a very nice metaphor for this part of the dance.

At least it's not pink!
