Logan seemed to feel a little better this morning, but he won't eat. He had a few treats after his test, but then I could only get to eat 1/8 can FF chunky chicken and about 1/16 cup of Core with 1/3 jar baby food mixed in (about 62 calories total). We didn't give him the pred this morning. He just got his metronidazole.

I'll be away until about +4, but DH2B is going to try and feed him again in a couple hours once his insulin kicks in. I'm really hoping he'll come down some today w/o the pred...

Mommy bean is very depressed and frustrated. If he doesn't start eating well today, we have to go back to tube feeding and our countdown will begin again.

Re: 2/6 Logan AMPS 336

Good morning Kelly. I was just catching up on your condo yesterday when I saw you post this morning. The no-eating might be a sign that there is something else going on there. I saw in yesterday's condo where you said about him going to the vet on Monday for a checkup. If he's not feeling well, he of course won't have much of an appy. Could possibly be an infection brewing around the insertion site of the tube.

Hang in there. I know how frustrating this whole feeding tube game is. Keep pumping the calories through the tube. One question I do have for you Kelly is have you tempted him with a creamy mixture of some cat supplement? I was giving Max some CatSure that I got from PetCo and the vanilla taste of it always got his attention. Max had no interest in baby food or even regular food but would go crazy with the food when I mixed the supplement in it.

Re: 2/6 Logan AMPS 336

Can't offer words of wisdom - but can give support. Try the supplement if you can - anything to get him to eat. C'mon Logan - momma is worrying!

Re: 2/6 Logan AMPS 336

That stuff sounds interesting so I went to see what I could find on it.

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... Id=2752885

It seems there are cans of it so it would be convenient, yes?

I sure hope Logan comes around and gets out of his fussy pants so that he can get out of his shirt and tube.

Logan, are you listening, big guy? Eat up some food please; you will feel better for it.

Re: 2/6 Logan AMPS 336

That CatSure is the most amazing stuff (IMHO). It is higher in carbs so you do have to watch that. But when Max had his tube in, our first and foremost objective was to get him to eat. I was always told by Jill and JoJo that we can adjust insulin but let's just get him to eat. It is very convenient and easy to use. Instead of mixing water with his food that I put into the blender, I mixed the CatSure in with it. I would flush the tube with water to give him his water consumption for the day. But something about the creaminess of the mixture and the vanilla taste really got his attention. He got to the point where he would sniff the syringe before I put into his tube. When he did this, I would push a small amount of the mixture out of the syringe into a bowl and let him lap it up. Whatever he didn't eat out of the bowl, I would continue to push through the tube.

Kelly if you look at Max's ss, you will see close to the beginning of his diagnosis where I had figured out exactly how much CatSure to food ratio I was mixing up and feeding at each time that we fed. That might be a good go-by for you for mixing it.

Another little trick that we used too with Max was sprinkling Fortiflora on his food. I swear he would eat dog poo if it had Fortiflora on it. And yet another trick that worked well for us was dribbling a little EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil - mild flavor) on his food.

Just trying to give you a few tricks that worked for us in hopes that maybe one of them will tempt Logan enough to get him back on track eating again.

Re: 2/6 Logan AMPS 336

(((Kelly))) This has just got to be so stressful and worrisome for you. I hope the vet can get to the bottom of it on Monday. Something is wrong for sure. Sending healing snowflakes to Logan.

Re: 2/6 Logan AMPS 336

I looked up the ingredients of the Catsure, but is has milk protein in it...Logan is very allergic to milk...and beef. :( He's hiding under the bed and won't come out, won't touch any food. I'm going to have to crawl under there to tube feed him.

Lynee, what food did you put through the tube? The vet gave me the Hill's a/d since it was high calorie and it goes through the tube very easily. She told me that Logan would most likely never eat whatever food we pushed through the tube. Did you find this to be true w/Max? I'm just wondering if I need to find a new food to push through that maybe won't cause the IBD to flare up. Something's definitely going on. I don't know if it's an IBD flare up - if it is, the pred didn't keep that at bay. We did go down to 5mg once a day today - he didn't get any this morning. This was per the vet's instructions. Maybe I should've given it to him...but, this came on while he was 5mg bid so maybe it wouldn't make a difference.

I just don't know what to do at this point. I guess we'll run more tests on Monday.

I have tried fortiflora but it doesn't seem to interest him too much these days. I'll give the olive oil a try.

Re: 2/6 Logan AMPS 336

Oh Kelly,
I'm sorry to see Logan is giving you a hard time with eating. I know how helpless you feel
when you need them to eat and they just don't want to cooperate.
When Max had his fatty liver (twice) I thought I would lose more weight then him just form the stress.
Please make sure that you focus on yourself too since you were not feeling well.
You will need to have your strength to do what you need for Logan and Mommy's just
can't get sick. Especially with the bad weather everyone is having.

Sending some eating and feel better encouragement to all of you.

Re: 2/6 Logan AMPS 336

I just saw your post - sorry for being so late to get back to you. I don't know if Logan could eat the Wellness due to his IBD or not but that is what I used for Max. The vet was giving him the Purina A/D through the tube when he was there and he wanted nothing to do with it at home. I switched him to Wellness as soon as we got him home. And yes, he did eat the Wellness on his own so I think it just depends on finding the right food that he will like. But again, you are in a bit of a different situation than we were because of Logan's IBD. Max quickly bored with the Wellness so we switched him to 9-Lives and Friskies and he loves them both. We alternate every feeding with a different flavor and/or different brand because he is so picky that he will quickly walk away if it is what he had the feeding before.

As far as food pushing through the tube, you can make any wet food push through the tube. Just takes lots of time to mix it up very liquidy in a blender. I only clogged Max's tube once when I was feeding him and it immediately flushed through when I put water into it. I learned quickly from that to just make it more liquidy. I have one of those Bullet blenders that I used specifically for Max's food and it worked great for me. I would mix a batch of it up at each feeding so he always got a fresh batch and it was the right consistency.

When feeding him through the tube, I used the food chart and got the highest calorie Wellness that I could get so that I could get the right amount of calories into him with the least amount of feedings (since I was already feeding him every 3 hours - I didn't want to feed more often than that).

I'm so sorry that you are having such a difficult time with this right now. The whole feeding tube thing is so very stressful. I am sending you lots of love and snowflakes for Logan to eat.

Re: 2/6 Logan - Going to ER

Logan has taken a turn for the worse. He seemed to be in pain (he cried when I went to place the tube back in his shirt after feeding him) so I gave him some of his pain meds about an hour ago. He's still crying whenever he moves. I'm afraid something is wrong with the tube that's causing him pain...maybe he has an infection or something. I'm really really scared. I'm waiting for DH2B to get back. He took the dogs to a friend's house so they could watch them while we're gone. There's no telling how long we'll be at the ER. I hate taking him there, but I really think something is seriously wrong.

Please pray for my Logan and for me to get through this, whatever it may be.

Re: 2/6 Logan - Vet Update

DH2B and I are finally home. Logan, unfortunately, had to stay overnight. He has a fever and his ALT was high. The high ALT was quite a shock to everyone. They suspect pancreatitis and believe the ALT elevation is secondary to that since the HL s/b cleared up by now. He's been getting more than enough calories for several weeks now. They're also concerned that the tube is possibly leaking. They put in some contrast dye and took 6 rounds of x-ray, which two different radiologists looked at - in a couple it looks like it's possibly leaking, but they're inconclusive. They put him on IV ABs and are not putting anything through the tube, at all. Tomorrow morning, an internist will be there and will do an ultra sound. That should clarify whether or not the tube is leaking. They'll also be checking his pancreas.

The ER vet was very nice and very compassionate. That's the first positive experience I've had at that ER vet and I've been too many times to count between Logan and Morgan! Before we left him, she even offered for us to come back and say goodnight to him. I got him to eat a little bit of chicken and I gave him his insulin injection - apparently, he bites, so they were happy for me to take care of that for them! :) When he saw me, he perked up and started purring. Poor baby, he just wants to come home. :( He's on injectible buprenex.

The ER vet said the prednisolone could've caused the pancreatitis, if that's what it is...I can't imagine how we're going to treat everything. It's so overwhelming and scary. I've never seen Logan cry like that - not even when he tore his ACL. Then, he screamed an awful scream when it happened, but afterwards, he was quiet and never really cried. He cried all the way to the vet's office. It was very sad. You could tell he was in a great deal of pain.

The internist that's on call should be in around 9 tomorrow morning. Hopefully, we'll know something by lunch time.

Thank you everone for your kind words, prayers, and thoughts. We need them and appreciate them!

My heart goes out to you Kelly (((Logan)) I can only imagine how much you'll miss him tonight.

I'm so glad they're taking good care of him!!

((((hugs)))

Will be watching for your update tomorrow - am sending many healing vibes and prayers for your sweet Logan. Isn't it terrible when they're crying like that and we don't know what to do for them. He is where he should be tonight - hopefully he will be able to come home tomorrow.

Keep us posted.

I'm sorry you had to leave him there tonight, but glad you had a nice vet, that must have helped. I hope your baby is feeling better and you get some good news in the morning. Thank goodness you do have an ER you can go to.

Kelly,

I know how awful it must have been to leave him. I will also say that I, myself, had pancreatitis and it makes you feel just 100% totally horrible. But, here I am! My best wishes for Logan's speedy recovery. :YMHUG:

(((((((Kelly))))))) I will be keeping you and Logan very tight in my prayers tonight. Keep positive thoughts. I know it's very difficult right now but try to be strong for him. Fingers and paws crossed here for Logan. I will be looking for your post tomorrow to see how everything went overnight tonight and tomorrow morning when they get there to check him out.

(((Logan)))

I hope that they figure out what is making Logan uncomfortable or is causing his pain. He sounds like a fighter!

Kelly- just in case, maybe take a pair of dirty socks or a dirty sleep tshirt with you tomorrow when you go to the ER? I am sending white light and healing vines to Logan, but in case he needs another night there, he might be comforted by having your smell there. I left some small items with Cosmo when he was hospitalized (maybe it was more comforting to me to think he wouldn't feel so lonely if he could smell me).

((kelly))

Kelly,
I am so relieved that you had a positive time at the ER and that now you will be getting to the bottom of whatever has Logan so ill.
I do have to admit that I  when I read where you said that apparently he bites - that tells me he's still got some spunk there and is not going to tolerate any guff.

Cyn had a great idea about the socks or something of yours; I know that Shadoe is always grabbing my socks when I take them off. She lies on top of them. She especially loves my sweat socks. Or if not something of yours, then something of Logan's favorite toys or blanket.

I hope you have some good news in the morning and Logan begins to recover as soon as possible.

We carried him in on his blanket. It's a big, red, queen size blanket that's folded up. He lies on it for his feedings, tube cleanings, sleeps on it at night, etc. We couldn't pick him up so we got him to crawl onto it and then picked him up. It's in the cage with him and it's nice and cushy. He can burrow in it and hide if he needs to. He's always difficult at the vet's office and is always grouchy...the more they mess with him the grouchier he gets! This vet said that was ok, he was allowed to be grumpy when he's there...she's the first one that hasn't complained about his grumpiness!

She gave him his full insulin dose even though he didn't eat much...with the infection, I really doubt he'll drop much, at all , so I was relieved she gave him the full dose. They always want to give 1/2 his regular dose and he ends up sky high!

Thanks again, everyone, for your thoughts and prayers! I'll post an update as soon as I can tomorrow.

(((((( Kelly & Logan ))))))) I'm thinking about you two. I hope Logan is having nice peaceful sleep tonight at the vet's. As goes for you, too, Kelly.

It's so hard when you have a sick furbaby. Poor kitty. I hope he is feeling better soon. Make sure you and DFTB take good care of each other too during this stressful time.

Lots of get better vibes for Logan.

Hi Kelly. I'm so sorry that Logan is in hospital. Your baby has been through a lot. My Tori is a pancreatitis kitty and I know how painful it was for her. He's in the best place right now getting the fluids and the Bup. I hope the ultrasound goes well tomorrow. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Kelly,
I just wanted to stop in and say I have been thinking about Logan and hope he had a restful and healing nite at the hospital.

I hope all goes well today and Logan gets to come home soon.

Sending all the healing vines we can muster up here - (((((hug hug hug!)))))) Just waiting and praying for a positive update - hang in there - I can only imagine how scary all of this has been. I am hoping and praying that when you go in this morning he will have seen some improvement. I am glad the ER vet seems to understand scared kittens :)

Sounds like Logan is in good hands now. Sending positives your way. Hang in there and hope today brings a better kitty.

((((Kelly))) (((((((Logan)))))))) Sending healing thoughts and many many prayers to you all for Logan to heal fast. I hope that they find the source of the pain and get him to feeling comfortable again.

((((Kelly)))((((Logan))))

I just saw this. I'm so sorry you are all having such a hard time and sorry that poor little Logan is going through so much. My thoughts are with you and I'm sending out positive and healing vibes and many prayers for Logan's speedy recovery. He's a tough little guy! ♥

Hugs to you
