"To have loved and then said farewell is better than to have never loved at all.
For all of the times that you stooped and touched my head, fed me my favorite treat and returned the love that I so unconditionally gave to you.
For the care that you gave to me so unselfishly.
For all of these things I am grateful and thankful. I ask that you grieve not for the loss but rejoice in the fact that we lived, loved and touched each other's lives.
My life was fuller because you were there, not as owner, but as my friend. Today, I am as I was in my youth. The grass is always green, butterflies flit among the flowers and the sun shines gently down upon all of God's creatures. I can run, jump and play and do all of the things that I did in my youth. There is no sickness, no aching joints and no regrets and no aging. We await the arrival of our lifelong companions and know that togetherness is forever. You live in our hearts as we do in yours. Companions such as you are very rare and unique. Don't hold the love that you have within yourself.
Give it to another like me and then I will live forever. For love never really dies,
and you are loved and missed as surely as we are."

I am so overwhelmed by the amount of love, support, unconditional support, and caring Mannie and I have received over the course of the past few weeks. For me, the above says it all. Unconditional love. It was so Mannie. And so LL. I will be eternally grateful for all the support I, and Mannie, have received, from the very moment we joined LL. I wanted to take a few moments today to share Mannie with all of you, as I know you miss him as much as I do. What a unique character he was. My vet has always called him anomaly, as he never did play by the rules, or fit into any plan any of us ever had for him. He did things his way, his terms, his time.
Can you believe it??? 4 years for me. I am sooooooo excited, cuz well... I am now healthy and happy and content and so much better than I was before they told me I had FD. I didn't even know what that was.... I did know though that I was scared, and hungry all the time, and so skinny.... the vetties at first didn't know what was wrong with me. They thought maybe I had a bad heart... nah! that wasn't it - I could have told them that! nuthin' wrong with my ticker..... then they thought I had IBD. nah.... that wasn't it. I knew my tummy and stuff were just fine, but that the fuds weren't working for me.... I'd eat and eat and nothing made me feel full, ya know? Then they thought I needed x-rays and ultrasounds and stuff.... nah that wasn't it. Them x-rays and stuff looked good. shesshhhhh!!! One day they said we gots to do my blood work, again. By now I was really irritated with all them pokies... but hey! guess what!! There it was!: a BG of 683!! scary! And so began my journey. My bean tried so hard... but we didn't know about fdmb, and went through 3 hypos , and rocky rollercoaster rides , until a year and a half later someone took my bean under her wing and showed her all these great folks in LL! You guys saved me! I LUBS YOU ALL! so... today we celebrate! A party at my house - A BIG PARTY! I am SO HAPPY. Thank you all for being there for me and my bean.

One of the joys during the past two years was the arrival of Nicholas. He and Mannie had such an incredible bond. They were truly best friends. At first Mannie had no clue what that crying tiny thing was. He'd check him out, sit and watch from a distance. When things got a bit noisy off to the basement he'd go, relief from a crying baby. I'd find him creeping up stairs moments later to see if that notice maker had quieted some. So so cute, and so so Mannie. Over the past two years those two learned to share, whether it be nanners, or fishie crackers or a nap or two. They looked for each other every day. It was such an incredible bond. Nicholas knows things are different now, but it is a difficult concept for a two year old. He has told me several times over the past couple of days "Man-NIE now hap-PY" Yes, that he is. Happy. I would like to share a couple of videos with you - Mannie and Nicholas, together, and so indicative of their bond.
Mannie and Nicholas: Best Friends
There have been so many things that Mannie has been known for. I have so many favorite photos, a few I'd love to share with you too. I am especially thankful to those that created the for us all: Tena, MJ, and CD. You guys are wonderful. Thank you for your humor, compassion, and all that you do for all of us in LL.

well, here it is folks...the fellow we've all been waiting to see in our dive exhibition today...Mannie Manxman. Mannie hails from the PNW...he doesn't really have what you'd think of as a diver's build, but his technique is undeniable. As we're waiting for this fellow to mount the dive platform, let's address the recent excitement Mannie experienced: it's true that officials did confiscate some items from Mannie's hotel room yesterday. Statements say they were concerned about a replay of the Michael Phelps scandal, but tests proved that these items were a harmless substance called Nanners...nothing illegal for this guy!
wait...mark...look at the back of Mannie's Speedos...is that a pom pom we're seeing???...
yes it is, bill...one of his signature adornments. Well, he's heading to the ladder...and as always, this colorful fellow throws a wave and a grin to his fans in the stands...who, oddly, all seem to be wearing fur coats...
we'll be back after a word from the makers of Lantus...

RAINBOW BANDIT STRIKES AGAIN
Lantus Land (AP)
Regular posters to the Feline Diabetes Message Board (FDMB) experienced again today what has become a frequent experience in their domain. A cat named Mannie once again showed such bouncing numbers that the beans on the board were baffled once again by his ability to show such rapid increases and decreases in blood glucose. Dubbed "The Rainbow Bandit," Mr. Mannie deftly demonstrated the power of Lantus insulin and left many practically speechless in his wake. At times, his movements were so stealthy, they could barely be detected, but were made obvious by his "signature," a trail of nanners. If you see this cat standing near a cliff or bungee jumping apparatus, you are asked to, for the love of god, do all you can to keep him there. However, if you are in a position to approach, do not make contact with the nanners or other toys, as it could create for a dangerous situation. This cat, if provoked in such a manner, should be considered armed and dangerous.
If you have any information on the current BG numbers of the Rainbow Bandit, you are urged to contact Lantus Land at 1800NANNERS

RAINBOW BANDIT'S REIGN OF BOUNCING EXTENDS INTO SECOND DAYLantus Land (AP)
The feline dubbed by Lantus Land authorities as "The Rainbow Bandit" has extended his streak of crazy bouncing numbers into another day. Known to his friends and family as "Mannie," the cat showed promise of a slow decline today, only to drop to blue numbers and bounce back up to near black heights. Despite pleas from the beans on the board of "Holy Macanoly!!" and "NO DIVING!!," the Rainbow Bandit continues to be unwilling to heEd the calls of members of the Lantus Land community to move to a more consistent, stable pattern of BG#s. Friends of the Rainbow Bandit, concerned that perhaps this latest jump was a parasailing incident gone awry, were last seen with some sort of crazy rope contraption involving pulleys and levers, hoping to guide him more gently down to the world of blue and green. This is a relief to many Lantus Land residents, as rumors have circulated that the Rainbow Bandit may be using his KTSS bus as a guise to run training sessions for his fellow felines on how to drive beans insane with crazy, unpredictable numbers. Authorities have not ruled out that the Rainbow Bandit may be operating on behalf of CALC, the Cats Against Literacy Campaign, a feline organization devoted to achieving world domination by preventing their beans from reading, communicating with the outside world, etc. Authorities are concerned that CALC may now have a FD fringe element that uses stress over BG#s as a means to achieve their objective.
Authorities continue to warn the public to not let their guard down regarding this possible growing menace. In recent days, adorable, furry purry pictures of the Rainbow Bandit have surfaced leading many to question how a cat so adorable could possibly be capable of such a plot. While the Rainbow Bandit's bean Michelle continues to pursue all possible options for controlling the Rainbow Bandits antics, authorities urge beans with cats to be aware of the possible threat.
If you have any knowledge of this cat's plans, methods, or if you have insights regarding his bouncing ways, you are urged to call Bouncestoppers at 1800DOWNNOW.

LANTUS LAND BRACES FOR POSSIBLE RETURN OF THE RAINBOW BANDIT
Beans Urged to Exercise "Caution and Vigilance"
Lantus Land (AP)
Authorities today are warning the public after a credible tip was received suggesting a return of the infamous "Rainbow Bandit" to Lantus Land. While local law enforcement has continuously maintained a search for the elusive Bandit, he appears to have stayed away from this close knit community for several months. "We're not clear if the Bandit had intended to leave for good or if he was merely vacationing out of the area," said one local resident, but regardless of the Bandit's intentions, his condo has showed recent signs of habitation.
Law enforcement officials urge the public to maintain vigilance in the eye of this new threat to Lantus Land order. Several months ago, the police received credible evidence that the Bandit may have been associated with the Cats Against Literacy Campaign (CALC) and/or the Cats Helping Through Hindering Campaign (CHTHC) and may be using Lantus Land as a recruiting ground for these organizations. Citizens are urged to keep their cats away from the Bandit in the hopes that his presence in Lantus Land will be short-lived. An emergency hotline has been set up to collect information regarding the reappearance of this Lantus Land menace. If you have information regarding the activities or whereabouts of the Rainbow Bandit, please contact 1800KIBBLEZ.
CORRECTION: In a recent story, the Lantus Land Daily Free Press incorrectly stated the number for the Rainbow Bandit Hotline. A source erroneously provided a number of 1-800-KIBBLEZ. The correct number is 1-800-NO-BNCE.
Mannie passed peacefully on the evening of April 18th. I laid Mannie to rest, in the back yard, in a spot that he loved, in NannerVile, a small suburb in MannieLand. It had rained all day. Relentless rains. At the moment that I put him to rest the rains just stopped, we had a brief moment of sun. I knew then that he had made it, that the Bridge had welcomed another traveler. It was his way of telling me that all was well, he was happy, whole, content. It was a moment I will not forget. I will be eternally grateful to his vet of 16 years, that made the trip on her day off, to help him cross. She would have it no other way. Thank you Candace! What a heroic warrior he was. Unbelievable that he could deal with FD, Aldosteronism, heart issues, Potassium issues, Endocrinology issues, Liver lesions, Pancreatitis, Anemia, CRF, and still be true to who he was. I always wondered if I would know when it was time, would I see the signs, would I know when he had told me? I did. They always manage to let us know, that is forever true. When I asked him that day if it was time, was he ready, he purred, closed his eye's and relaxed. I had my sign, and I knew he was ready. Mannie said so.
"As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful--lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.
I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
'Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart."
