Still too high...

I've just done the test at the end of it's Lantus 1.5 life span (morning dose at 7.00h, it's now 19.00h) and numbers
are the same as they were in April. 20.7 (372). :(

Guess I might have been over enthusiastic this afternoon when he was at 13

Anyhow, I'll keep monitoring and see.

Keep on doing what you are doing! I'm not sure if the weight gain is that high (differences in scales and stuff) but it's good he's gaining, he was probably pretty dehydrated. Be aware, in rare cases with subQ fluids, they can overload the heart and a massive weight gain would be a symptom of this. It's probably not the case, but it was a concern when I saw your post. More likely, he's just better hydrated, got a full belly, and feeling better.

I'd hold the dose your on (1.5 units?) for another couple days, and keep making sure that he's getting enough calories. If he's eating enough on his own, you don't have to syringe. If his appetite starts getting worse, you should start again.

''Be aware, in rare cases with subQ fluids, they can overload the hear''... Outch, that's quite a concern...
Both Small Kitty and Big Brother have never been hungry cats. One day they eat the next they dont.

Is the weight of a cat that is not eating that much staying straight an level, eating a lot or just a little ?
How much variation should make me freak out ?

That's not unusual for her numbers to be that much higher.....We call it a "bounce"

When our cats are first diagnosed as diabetic, most of them have been diabetic for a long time so their body has become used to living at higher blood glucose numbers. When we first start out and get their numbers to drop, their liver thinks there's a problem and releases stored sugar and hormones to bring them back up to where it's been "used to" living

As you get her into better numbers more and more, her body should re-learn that it's OK to be in those better numbers and stop reacting by bouncing so high.

It would be REALLY helpful if you'd go ahead and fill out your signature line and get our spreadsheet up to keep track of her numbers. We really depend on that spreadsheet to be able to give you the best advice possible.

On the signature, just find your sign on name at the top right and there's a drop down menu....choose "Signature".....A new box will pop up for you to put information like

Your name/cats name, age, sex, date of diagnosis, type of insulin, type of meter, type of food, any other health issues?, general location where you live (You'll see all this information directly below most of our comments).....that way we don't have to keep asking the same questions over and over again.

Here are Instructions on getting the FDMB spreadsheet http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/

You would want to use the WORLD spreadsheet so you can enter the numbers like you read them. It will convert them automatically for those of us in the US

If you have ANY problems with the spreadsheet, please just let us know! You can send me a private message and I'd be happy to set it up for you if you can't!!

Should I let them go out ?

Small Kitty and Big Brother used to be outside all night long, winter, summer, ice or rain
they love going out and run. The neighbor's backyard is their spot. There is wooden fence all around
making it semi confined (I'm sure they can leave the place by some holes, there is other cats there).
It never happened one of them not coming back. I've built a trap with a small ladder and they come
and go as they want. I live on the second floor so they go down the staircase, reach our small backyard
and jump to there fun spot.

Since last Friday I've blocked the rear mezzanine staircase so that's as far as they can go but
this is no big playground for exercise for them. Also, I'm afraid they might just get tired and try
to overpass my home made barricade and not be able to get back.

What do you guys think ?

BTW,

I had taken a couple of pictures of me and Small kitty using a DSLR with an external flash on
a tripod and remote control but I messed up they all turned out under exposed..
In order to keep aperture at 2.8 I had to put a 1.5 nd filter on the lens (to step down the speed)
and it messed up.
(A wide apperture (2.8) requires higher speed for good exposure but flash synch limit yourself
to a 250 shutter speed). I should have set a slower shutter speed or remove the filter but was
to tired.

That's gonna be for next time.

Thanks to reassure me. I'm used to get fast results. With computers (my business), and photography (my hobby), things
are going FAST, VERY FAST !! A WWII P-51 Mustang at Thunder over Michigan in Detroit (as an example), is getting
from you left to you right at 400mph, that means moving very quickly is you don't want to overshoot.

In regards of signature I tough I'd done that (putting all the specs and health characteristic). I'll go again and see.

As for the spreadsheet, I'll attack this this week, was just too worried these last few days.

Thanks again, you're very nice people in here.

I've just set my signature. Working ??

Yes!! Thanks!! (can we have your name too? Don't want to have to call you "Small Kitty's human"......LOL)

The spreadsheet really isn't hard at all.....it's already set up and formatted on Google....all you have to do is start it, enter the date and start putting your numbers in.....It doesn't take 60 seconds to set up!
