So we got Kai's blood test results back today and his kidney values haven't really improved. His INDEXX SDMA and BUN have improved a little but his Creatinine was higher. His potassium also went down a little but is still considered elevated. I asked her about switching him to a regular saline Sub Q Fluid in regards to the elevated potassium levels and she agreed.
I guess the CKD diagnosis is official now and that really breaks my heart. My hopes were so high because he has been acting and doing so well. I really just don't understand. He is showing no other signs or symptoms of CKD but his blood test says otherwise.
I'm just going to keep doing what I can do until the day comes where he does start to show symptoms. We will cross that bridge when we get there.
For now I would like to pick your brains.
I'm going to start Kai on Denamarin becuase his liver enzymes are also still slightly elevated. And I'm also going to switch him to a regular 0.9% saline sub q fluid. Although, I am a bit concerned about the regular saline solution causing his sodium levels to rise. His sodium levels are just under the threshold of elevated so i don't want to make things worse there. I'm going to email his vet tonight and point that out. She either didn't see it or wasn't concerned about it. If anyone has any experience with either of those two thing, please feel free to chime in with any suggestions or advice.
I hope everyone else had a perfectly normal and calm day
