I would not go higher than 2
Ok gonna shoot him now and take a reading at +1. Thank you!
I would not go higher than 2
Yep. I would test no later than 1.5.
I’m happy with that!OK. I'm going to give him 1.75 dose.
I hope he didn’t bounce!
Yes. I just saw that. I had a feeling— so I kept periodically peeking at his SS this morning. Just a moment…Good morning. I don't think he did?
This morning he is 109. So pretty sure I should reduce his dose a little again? What do you think?
And no tests from last night so we don’t really know how low he went
Okay. I lost you. I hope you’re okay and I hope my messages got through.
Yes. Between the 1 mark and the 1.5 markYes, after the +1, I should have gotten another one. I'll do better, I was just so tired.
I shoot 1.25. Just to be sure, that is between the 1 and the half mark?
I’m going to go get some more coffee now!No Just slow on 1 cup of coffee lol
You know, if this happens and you wake up in the morning an hour or two before his shot time, it can be really good information to get a +10 or so if you were not able to get night tests earlier in the cycle. It can clue us in as to how low he may have gone the previous night— and it can also prepare you if it looks like you’re going to have a low AMPS.Yes, after the +1, I should have gotten another one. I’m not sure you really want to ask that questionHow are your furbies doing, Suzanne?
I’m not sure you really want to ask that questionThe short answer is that the problem children are keeping me busy and costing me a lot of money.
The longer answer is:
Marcus (one of my FIV+ boys) goes for an ultrasound tomorrow. He had been not doing well — he has had squamous cell carcinoma on his ears and nose, radiation to his nose which was successful, diagnosed with IBD last year, losing weight despite eating, most recently all liver enzymes were elevated and then returned to normal, but his white blood cell count is still quite elevated even after antibiotics and he’s mildly anemic.
Yesterday Richard (yes, go ahead and laugh at his name Richard the Lionhearted) went for bloodwork so he can hopefully finally get the radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism. That’s going to be real fun keeping him isolated for two weeks—but at least we will be done.
Grace had radiation treatments in July for severe lymphoplasmacytic rhinitis (CT scan, rhinoscopy, biopsy, x-rays, ultrasounds) It does not seem to have helped her much. I’m starting her on cyclosporine (Atopica) since I researched it after the radiation didn’t seem to have helped. Even my vet is learning. I talked to her about it and she also did some research and agreed that we should try the cyclosporine. I started it this morning (stole a pill from another cat who is taking it for skin problems and has done very well on it and is now down to only two capsules a week.) Grace has asthma too and uses an inhaler twice a day. Where do I stop?
But thanks for asking!![]()
I like those names!Oh, bless, what a time you're having with those sweet babies. You must be tired and halfway stressed all the time. They are lucky to have you, so many other people wouldn't take the time and effort and love.
Poor Marcus, I hope he rallies. I hope that for all of them. Charlie is FIV+. I thought he was having symptoms and wasting due to that when he first got sick. Vet says likely all the strays and ferals around here are postive just from interacting.
The two strays I feed and trick to go to the vet once a year are called Jon Snow - all white, blue-eyed, so pretty, and I'm a Game of Thrones fan, and Mournful - he named himself the first day he showed up, that expression. So, I really love your babies' names!
At least it was easier to bring him up today!
So he’s at least going to get 1 unit or .75 tonight— depending on PMPS. Maybe we should just cut his dose to .5. You might fall asleep again tonight and not be able to test…. I am just trying to think of everything ahead of time.
I would not worry about it being too low if we try the lower dose. The worst thing that would probably happen is he is a little too high tonight (but personally I doubt he will go really high) and tomorrow we adjust the dose back up a little bit.True, it was a bit easier this time. He was so annoyed. He's started flipping his ear down when I go to rub it, lol. I think I can stay awake, but I'd love not to have to, as well as not keep pokin at him. I'll check his PMPS reading and decide then.
What happens if the dose is a bit too low? Will it make him bounce waaaay up? Like a backlash effect?
OK I will poke him in 1/2 hour and check in to see what you think on his reading before I dose him.I would not worry about it being too low if we try the lower dose. 1 unit, gonna shoot right now.1 unit should be okay. What did you shoot?
It would be nice to see some green, but he just had the reduction down to 1 unit and we must hold that dose for 7 days (unless he earns another reduction, of course) and let things stabilize. Also, he could be dropping lower at night. We need to be patient.
That’s so cute! It must be a sign of him feeling better.Ah, OK gotcha.
I bagged out a little yesterday on his evening pokes. He was doing so well, running and playing, and so on. I just wanted to give him a little break.

God bless you for helping her! Does she have any limping from the leg fracture? Is her eye okay? Just not good vision in that eye? I need to see her picture! How sweet that she loves Charlie.
I wonder if someone dumped her by throwing her out of a car and that’s how she had a broken leg? My friends, who run a feral cat coop, were brought a kitten who had been thrown out of a moving car and she just had to have her leg amputated. They waited until she was 4 lbs. to do the surgery. She doing great now and running around the house with the other kittens.
I was also at the vet one day and there was a kitten there who had been tossed from a moving vehicle. She had two broken hind legs that they were going to surgically repair. Anyway, I am happy that your Lil’Baby is such a loved kitty now. I have a Little Girl here, too. She was a “feral” and she knows her name so we can’t change it.
I see he dipped into green today! I wish I could find my old green and cool blue emojis.
She’s very beautiful, by the way. I am very sorry about your heart kitty. I lost my beautiful calico, Ginger, on July 12, 2024.
I miss her.
AgreedOur alley isn't the kind that cars drive through; it's just the space between houses on either side of the street. Grassy. Lots of bushes. I thought maybe she was separated from her mom and just wandered. She couldn't have come from far. Vet said it looked like the kind of injury from being dropped, but that scratch on her eye...it's a real mystery.
I will never, EVER understand the inhumane cruelty of some people. They don't deserve to be in civilized society.
Well she was tame so she had to have been around people. Hmmm? Our alley isn't the kind that cars drive through; it's just the space between houses on either side of the street. Grassy.
