Uncle Charlie's Updates_2

Maybe she fell from a tree or scratched her eye on branches or bushes?? It’s always a mystery, isn’t it?

I had to climb a ladder and pluck a crying, scrawny, flea-infested kitten out of a tree recently. He couldn’t/wouldn’t come down and had been meowing pitifully all day. The people who contacted me had never seen him before and had no idea what to do. He had been hiding under a mower, then sitting on a wall crying, then got chased up the tree by a dog and got stuck. Theory was that maybe momma was moving them and lost track of him. Or perhaps got hit by a car. Or perhaps he had hitched a ride there on the undercarriage or engine compartment of a vehicle or bed of a truck (it happens). The little beast was scared but friendly. Never did find out where he belonged. I’m glad there are people like you who will step up and help!! (Any chance you want to adopt a now flea-free sweet little hooligan to join your crew, lol?? 😉 ). His name is Groot, btw. Kitten nibbles to anyone who knows the reference!

Groot - Guardians of the Galaxy! Cute name lol. Honestly I wish I could have more. I think my sugar baby, Charlie, who feels better now, so is back to being grumpy, might have a word with me about that. 😆

What’s up with Uncle Charlie? I see you dropped his dose, but unless I missed a number below 90 he didn’t yet earn the reduction at that time. I know you are excited to see him spending so much time in better numbers. :bighug: He’s doing well on the .75 dose right now and I would stay there unless he drops below 68. It’s time to switch to the Modified ProZinc Method and try to get him into remission or at least to the lowest dose we know will keep him below 120 (even at preshots hopefully.) It’s very exciting to me to see his progress! So my recommendation is to not drop his dose unless he goes below 68 on your AT meter.

Hi there :)

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I've been deeply immersed in training for that new position I mentioned and have been locked into the computer from 9 am to 2 pm every day, which explains the change in my charting. Thankfully, he's been doing better, as you mentioned, but I have been able to get his snacks on time and obtain at least two readings a day. I think I have the hang of the new schedule now.

Yes, I did reduce him as he had been on the previous dose for a week - I guess I misread the criteria for reduction. However, as he was doing okay, I wanted to see how he would perform on a slightly lower dose because we had discussed that.

Question: What is the modified method, and why should we switch to it now?
I really need to keep him stable, as much for his health as for me, because it will be difficult for me to sneak away and do testing/feeding if we get into low numbers. I do have the weekend off to watch for changes however.

Yes. We don’t want to do much until your training is over! I hope it’s going well.

As for holding the dose for one week, that is for determining whether an increase is needed —not a reduction …. as reductions can be taken any time a cat drops below 90 if following SLGS or under 68 on your AT meter if following MPM.

Oh also, when is the lower than 90 reading mean reduction? He had 3 days where his nadir was lower than that. Or is it related to pre-shot time?
So yes, technically he has earned another reduction down to .5 units, but you had already taken a reduction before it was earned so I didn’t think you should take another one. This is why I suggested a switch to the Modified ProZinc Method. Charlie is doing so incredibly well on this dose right now of .75 units — with very consistent numbers— that I didn’t want to rock the boat and change anything. You can take the reduction down to .5 units at the next shot, however, and see how it goes. You will be off for the weekend! Maybe it will be best until you finish the training anyway. What do you think?
