Yesterday's 100% green day

Oh man Ivana, you're killing me! You would not believe the excitement I feel every time I do a test now, and I do a little squeal every time it's another green. I wonder if she's changed her mind about earning her OTJ trial by a drop, and maybe she's decided to do it by a week of greens? I'm down with that, whatever you have to do sweet girl :D

She's still eating well, pooping well, preening well (although there was a small furball yesterday), and giving death stares when someone sits in her chair well.

Hope she gets to have her OTJ party!

@Wendy&Neko I need your advice please! Ivana has just shown me a 43 at +6. If I take this as a drop, she'll be down to nothing. Should we do that, or go back to the 3 drops under 50 / 1 under 40 thing that we were doing? We're jumping out of our skin with excitement, but obviously want what's best for her, so if we should wait for 3 drops (or a week of greens) we will do that.

Hey I'll take advice from any of The Wise Ones, I'm not fussy haha. And we're only at +6 so plenty of time to figure it out. Don't think I've smiled this wide for a long time :woot: (Still trying not to get too excited just incase!)

FWIW - Julie was my mentor. ;)

Ivana, time to get up Missy!

Tara, have you ever counted the number of drops in your .1?

Not to muddy up your post with an inexperienced opinion but can't help myself. She's been in normal range since the reduction even with those few blues. AND she's not a long term diabetic so she doesn't really need the 3 drops under. With that 43 and 41, my vote is trial.

Tara, I've been away for far too long - personal stuff - long, boring story. This is exciting and I'm so happy for you!!! Fingers and toes, paws and whiskers crossed for you and Ivana!! Come on Ivana!!!!

Okay, the consensus is that, assuming Ivana doesn't throw a spanner in the works and have a blue PS, you start the trial with the next (green) preshot. Here are the instructions:

Start the trial on the next green pre shot.

If she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. She may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck with the trial!!!

Once she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

This is so exciting!!! Tara, we are all pulling for you and Ivana. Good luck!

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! We've been out for a few hours but I managed to sneakily check in to see this great news!!!! Just got home and had to do a +11 as I couldn't stand not knowing if I'd over-done the carbs earlier, and it turns out she's still smack-bang in the middle of the greens. I can't imagine much will change before PMPS time, so we're all systems go! :woot::woot::woot:

I will stick those instructions on the fridge for reference, and go pour myself a big glass of wine in celebration seeing that I don't need to have to see straight to draw up a dose tonight ;)
