Well it’s finally happened here in California. I’m a dental hygienist, I work for two different dental offices, and last night the California Dental Association released a statement saying they highly recommend all dental offices in California close and only see emergency patients. So I’m currently “unemployed” until we can go back to work. We might be out of work for at least two weeks.

Sounds like possible tapeworm (cats get by eating an infected flea). They typically shed segments periodically that dry up and look like rice. Do you have fleas in your area?

Several drugs work — Drontal Plus, Centragard topicals, etc.

You might want to consider a flea treatment as well; if Blaze has fleas or is exposed to them, he can become reinfected by eating another one.

I’ve not seen dewormers impact BG.

Ugh, tapeworms. :blackeye: One time I found some on a shelter cat where I was working part time. We had to dose the entire lot of them. Fortunately only one pill each. Just remind your vet Blaze is a diabetic.

Okay we’re back from the vet. Blaze is getting a dewormer called Drontal. He got two pills tonight (he did not like that) and then two more pills in two weeks. I told the vet he’s diabetic so I was hoping to get something that wouldn’t mess with his numbers, she said this shouldn’t have any affect on his BG. I tested him when we got home, thinking he would be high from the stress of going to the vet and he’s 69 at +3!
All kitties will be getting topical flea meds too. My cats are inside cats, so I get lazy with flea medicine but we do live in the country and every once in a while, I sit outside and let Blaze wander around the backyard for ten minutes or so, I’m guessing he picked up some fleas on one of these supervised outdoor visits. Stupid me. I need be consistent with the flea meds. The vet did say he has some scabs under his chin and on his neck from scratching and some redness and hair loss on his belly, near the under side of his legs. She’s hoping it’s from excessive licking and scratching and not some kind of food or skin allergy, because steroids aren’t good for diabetics. I’m hoping that’s what it is. I don’t want to change up his food or have to get some kind of steroid for him. We’ll see if this helps, fingers crossed.

What do you guys use for topical flea treatment and prevention. I bought what the vet had tonight but it’s $56 a tube and lasts for three months. With three cats, that’s expensive!

I use Comfortis, the traveling vet I get them from sells them by the pill and gives us the kind for a 40 lb animal and has us quarter them, makes one $18 pill last 4 months. I think that's an off-the-label method but it works. My girl has a bad flea allergy and it's the only thing that works for her.

Thank you! I’ll look into that! I need something for affordable than what the vet gave me tonight, and a pill sounds great. The cats hate the topical stuff.

I'm so glad I don't deal with the topical stuff anymore! The Comfortis is a chewable beef flavor but cats and dogs alike absolutely hate it so you have to mash it up and hide it in food.... except my girl thinks it's a treat and gobbles it up LOL. She's definitely not the norm though. XD Best of luck with it!

Thank you Elizabeth!
