Today is ANZAC Day here in Australia and New Zealand, the day we remember the fallen from wars and honor all who fought in them. It is the 100th anniversary of the landing of Gallipoli where so many of our men were killed. There are ceremonies throughout the country and the returned soldiers from all the wars march in the streets. Lest we forget.

It is 8am here and I can hear the saws going and the big mulcher chomping up the cut trees in the street behind us. There was a big tree down there. They are still trying to get to all the fallen trees and many roads are still blocked off. Sun shining again though which is good.

I reduced the carbs last night in Sheba's +2.5 meal and she did drop, but not as far or as fast as I would have liked. Her nadir was 135. She could have dropped further but I didn't get up after +8 to test again.
Should I continue the same and give her more time at 5.5 units or should I be thinking of an increase? Thanks

Not a big drop but for a +3.5 reading, this usually means an active cycle for Sheba as this is usually the beginning of the onset.

What, an active cycle during the day time? :woot: She did get that 88 on the first cycle at this dose. I'd give her a couple cycles yet to see if she can get back there.

Happy Anzac day! Did your family get their power back yet?

Thanks Wendy for the advice.
Yes, they all have the power back on, now they have to come and get all their food out of my bulging fridges and freezers!
Still hundreds of homes without power though further up the peninsular (where my sister lives)

I'm always a bit teary on ANZAC day :( lest we forget

I'm glad your family has power back, hopefully the rest of the state will soon too. That was some storm you guys had :eek:

I hope Sheba keeps sliding down for you today. I hope the storm cleanup doesn't interfere with any ANZAC Day activities. I'm glad you family got their power back. That's good they were able to keep their food at your place.

@Vyktors Mum
Yes, I am usually a bit emotional on ANZAC Day as well. When I was a little girl I remember watching the ANZAC March and the WWI serviceman were there as well as the WWII servicemen, who were young men. Now the WWI men are all gone and the WWII men are all old men. My Dad and all his brothers fought in the war and remarkably they all returned home.

Hi Carla
Thanks for looking in. Yes, it is just as well I had the power on or we would all have lost a lot of food. As it was, some of it had to be thrown out and the kids struck it lucky and got to eat ice cream etc that had unfrozen and was no good to refreeze
We have a lovely sunny day here for ANZAC Day which is good. The March through the city is so big, it takes more than 2 hours to go past one point. For the servicemen who can't walk the army provides open jeeps for them to ride in. All the units have their own banners so you can see what they did in the various wars. It is quite an emotional experience to go to one of the big marches.

Hi Bron

I'm glad your ANZAC memorial day was a good one for you all. Looks like Sheba decided to have a good day as well.

I hope she continues down for you today and sees some green. If she doesn't, I'd be tempted to add 0.25u to her dose. You test enough to handle any active cycles from an increase....unless she continues down today.

Looks like the ball's in Sheba's court. What'll it be, little Miss? Dosecrease or steady as she goes? It's your call!

I think it's so nice that you feel the emotion of an occasion like ANZAC Day. In the States, too few people even remember what Memorial Day and Veteran's Day represent - it's just another day off work to them. My father was a POW in Germany in WWII, and I have two uncles, a brother and my husband that are/were all veterans, so days like that mean more to our family. I think it's important to remember the past - as they say, those that don't are in danger of repeating it.

@Tricia & Cinco
ANZAC Day has always been big here and the young seem to embrace it more than ever which is really a good thing. The crowds at the marches are bigger than ever. They have just said that this year has had the biggest crowds ever which is pretty amazing.
This year is the 100 year anniversary of the Gallipoli landing which was a disaster for the Australian soldiers. They were sent to the slaughter...literally. Such a bad decision from the top.
I agree, if they don't know the danger, they might repeat it. And they should understand the sacrifices made so they could be free.
That is interesting your Dad was a POW in WWII
