Sheba cleared yesterday morning's bounce quickly and had an evening/night of green numbers.:D However she dropped too quickly despite my efforts and has another bounce this morning. This is the pattern we used to have pre forum days.

I have found and bought some 13% carb Weruva and I think I will try adding a teaspoon to the +3 meal to see if this helps ease the drops. I can adjust amount as necessary. She is not getting many carbs with her raw diet, just a few from the small amount of 4% Weruva I add to the +3 meal each day on a regular basis. I don't want to add more 4% as I would have to cut back on the raw which I don't want to do if possible. She seems to drop quickly somewhere between +3.5 and +5.5 when the drop is on, so I need to get in and carb before she drops. This might mean that on the days she doesn't drop she will have the higher carbs causing higher BSL. But hopefully it might solve the problem. At the moment I am sort of doing this but not on a regular basis and I am waiting to see the beginning of the drop first before I act.
I feel she is really trying to get and keep the lower numbers but that trampoline keeps appearing:arghh:
Do you think this is a good plan?
If I could have your opinion and advice please I would be very grateful. Thanks

I haven't updated Champ's SS in quite a while (because I've been lazzzzzy), but I do exactly what you're suggesting. Champ is very carb sensitive and never gets higher than a 13% carb food, even if he drops to the 30's. If I notice he's had a significant drop from his AMPS/PMPS to his +2 or +3, I give him a small dollop of the 13% on top of his regular 5% food and this usually keeps him coasting along without raising his BGs later in the cycle. Champ still likes to bounce when he goes low (usually overnight when I'm sleeping), but I try not to sweat it since his bounces are so short-lived and resolve themselves before one cycle is even over. Sounds like you're on top of things and have a lot of common sense where this is concerned so keep experimenting and I bet you find the magic combination!

Wow Sheba!! Having fun on that trampoline???

You might try getting a +2 for awhile....that might give you a "heads up" that she's planning on taking a dive and you can intervene a little earlier

I like the idea of trying some extra carbs to the +3 meal to see if that slows the drops a bit. Fuds experiments can take a while, so just try to be consistent for a week or two and see what happens. Some cats react better to some carb than no carb meals. Neko gets raw food too, but I found a manufacturer that puts a bit of juiced veggies in for vitamins and it raises the carbs to 3-5%, depending on the protein.

Chris - Sheba's on Levemir, a +2 may or may not show anything. Marje gets a +2 for Gracie, but it doesn't do much for me with Neko.

I understand that...it's just something I suggested that can be tried to see if it does show anything....if she's dropping so quickly by +3, it may help to get an earlier test just in case it does shows her dropping sooner

Bron, do you have the link to "Where Can I Find?" In the lower section of the first post there is a link to a condo called "Feeding the Curve: Tashie." Jill's got a good explanation in there about tinkering with food carbs to flatten out the curve, just as you are talking about. Take a look at that and see if there is something there you can apply to your situation.

Thanks Wendy, Julie and Chris for your thoughts and advice, much appreciate

Julie, I have seen that link "Where Can I Find" and Tashie, (have it bookmarked) but will go back to it and read again. There is lots of good info there and I will get some reinforcement into my head.

Wendy, I will go with the extra carbs in the +3 food and stick with it for a couple of weeks as you suggest and hopefully see a reduction in the bouncing.

Chris, I usually find that Sheba has a food spike after preshot with the levemir so when I have done a +2 and even a +3 she is often still higher than preshot or not significantly lower. She seems to start the dive round about +3.5 or +4. She is hard to predict and I find I am doing way more testing than I like. She is very cooperative with it all, but the cost of the strips is a bit scary even with the cheaper ones on ebay. I seem to go through a box of 100 in no time at all.

She just loves that trampoline:joyful::joyful::joyful:

I hear you on the test strips. Back when Neko was called the Rainbow Queen I used a lot more test strips. If you can get her slowed down at onset, paws crossed she'll level out some.

Hi Patty, thanks for looking in on us.:)
Sheba is carb sensitive as well but when she is on a mission, she needs high carbs to slow her down or sometimes honey. She is not a gentle diver........rather a straight to the bottom diver!!!
She is on levemir, not lantus so her onset is later around +4. Bounces are a real nuisance aren't they? Sheba's are resolving quicker than they did but they stuff up the next few cycles and there is always the resulting drop to navigate.
Good luck with Champ..he looks a cutey:cat:

Hi Bron, no advice from me but just learning from your SS, see what you mean, boing! Good luck, love the pic looks like she is really enjoying herself!
