Looks like I'll be taking Vyktor in to the vet tomorrow. They will need to anaesthetise him to examine him so I want to get everything in that we can. I asked if they were doing the new kidney test but the vet nurse hadn't heard of it, can someone remind me what it's called please. Also anything else that is recommended. He will be getting a full blood panel and I'm also going to ask them to do vitamin tests, eg B levels - Any other suggestions there? His mouth will be examined and I plan to ask for x-Ray's irrespective of what he can see (in case there's an issue that can't be seen). I'm thinking of having his tummy x-rayed too so I can satisfy myself that there is no constipation issue and all is as it should be in there and probably a cystocentitis to make sure there's no UTI. Any other thoughts/suggestions?

Yay for my wonderful vet who has said I can stay with him until he's out. Boo for old age.

Hi Serryn,
We are sending lots of good-vetty vines for Vyktor's tests tomorrow. And KTSS will be along to get the vetty smell off when he gets home.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Yo Vyktor, I'll be thinkin' of you tomorrow, buddy, and sending good vibes for your "procedures". Don't forget to sneak a swig of the Aussie Hootch before you get there.
~ Your pal, Rusty

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) - I tink dat da mumbean be guzzling all da hooch!

Is it the bun or the creatine we expect to be high on a raw diet?
Hi Serryn.
It is the BUN which can be raised a bit with high protein food.
When I had Sheba's last blood profile done about 6 weeks ago the SDMA TEST was done automatically along with all the other tests in the profile .....no extra cost .......it is now included routinely along with the others. I had Sheba's tested with IDEXX vet connect. You should be able to check with IDEXX in WA and ask the vet to send it there. I'm not surprised the vet nurse knows nothing about it....it is fairly new and the nurses out here have more to do with the nursing than the technical side of things..
Hope it all goes well with Vyktor ....keep up posted.:bighug:

Tons more good vetty vines going your way and all paws crossed for good b/w and urinalysis results. Even though the SDMA has been included as part of the package since last year here, vets are still getting to grips with how good an indicator it really is. My vet has seen some false positives on a very young cat, though it's seems to be about right for what I've seen for Neko and Theo.

Vyktor has suddenly turned green at the mention of the vet :D he doesn't get a reprieve for that but he does get a reprieve because I give him chamomile. I was cross checking all his supplements against surgery with Dr Google and for humans you need to stop chamomile 2 weeks before surgeries because of its blood thinning effect. Given that there's every chance he'll need teeth out and apparently his gums bleed a lot even when it's just cleaning the vet thought it best to postpone. Unfortunately that means I will have to get to a meeting that I very firmly told my boss I would not be able to attend tomorrow - all hell has broken loose on a matter I'm involved in and they have had me working like a slave for days - sigh

Meanwhile Purrdy has been running along beautifully after his increase - until Vyktor turned green and then he suddenly shot up. Apparently we only have enough green for one cat at a time

Thanks everyone.

Ergh... good luck for your meeting! Good decision re postponement, I've heard that re humans and cats think they're humans most times, so I guess it would apply to them too.

Sorry you had to postpone, but it's good you found out about the chamomile before his procedure. It's nice to see green for Vyktor. I hope Purrdy decides to join him.

I'm like Ella....I never would have thought that about chamomile but it really shows how important it is that the vets (and hooman doctors) know all the supplements we might be on.

Vines for Vyktor that he will feel well until his date with the vetty.

Sorry about the postponement. You get all geared up and--fizzzzzllllleeeeee-fizzle.

With my kidney dog, whenever he was in for the full panel that included kidney numbers, we agreed with the vet that he would also do his in-house version which gave us a nice history of comparison figures if/when we ever just had concerns and wanted a quick check. It was not expensive.

I hope they get Vyktor's woes figured out for him.

Wow, did not know that about Chamomile and blood thinning properties. I take turmeric and that also thins blood. What does Vyktor take chamomile for?

Must be a bit of an anticlimax after jeeing yourself up for the surgery.

Who would have thought Chamomile could cause a problem.

Glad to know about the chamomile. Why is Vyktor on it (calming properties?) and in what form? My vet suggested using tea bags in Sparkles mouth to help soothe the gum irritation for the stomatitis...yeah..like that went well.

Oh, you must be so frustrated! I was so glad to get Marmy's 2 surgeries over today. Will keep You all in prayers and hope You get it done safely and successfully very soon.:)

@Meanwhile Purrdy has been running along beautifully after his increase - until Vyktor turned green and then he suddenly shot up. Apparently we only have enough green for one cat at a time

Two diabetic kitties. Both in green at the same time. Right? And sustained for a long time. Correct?sounds reasonable to me! I will be praying.
