Ok folks. Just did Dottie's BG at 10:00pm and it was 265. No insulin given at doctor's request, since 2pm the evening before...and she crashed early this morning at 7am. When I called him about the crash he said this that he wants her to 'rest' for 24 hours without insulin.

She's hungry now. BG at 265, no insulin for at least another 16 hours...(hoping she'll get back on a smaller dose of PZI tomorrow), and currently she is Looking for food. Can I give her a tiny piece of lean fish? Not allowed insulin until 2pm tomorrow, on his orders. Will that sugar go down if I feed her lean meat only? She is LOOKING FOR FOOD.

    It's fine to feed now

It's actually easier on the pancreas to feed small meals more frequently instead of trying to feed 2 big meals only twice a day

A lot of us will use a pure protein source like baked chicken for a "snack" in the last half of the cycle because it has little impact on the blood glucose

:oops:I'm like the rest of you. I love my kitty, :p

Ok, I did feed her a morsel of tuna to tide her over till I get an answer. I do have baked chicken but she's never eaten it without a crusty coating "Shake and bake". She's kind of a 'common man's gourmet,' lol So this'll be new. OH WAIT. I'll add a shake of parmesan cheese to it. BRB

Eep, hubby ate the last of the baked chicken. To be fair, he hasn't asked me to prepare a meal these last couple of days. Instead, he's grabbing something at his social club, or just eating bad stuff like boloney and cheese. He loves the cat too.

I had some sliced beef, very lean, in the fridge. She didn't refuse it so I guess she's not nauseated. The beef isn't fatty...so it's not strong smelling, but then I'm not a cat, so in her opinion, it might stink for all I know. I didn't need the parmesan cheese. She gulped it down. Probably should do another BG test around 1 or 2 am, right? That's one and two hours from now.

Good to know about feeding really lean stuff in the last half of the time between shots. I don't know if the vet will want me to put her back on insulin tomorrow...I hate to step on his toes because I need a source for the insulin, eep. He has a prescription to write, and if he gets annoyed he may tell me to go elsewhere for service. She did ok on 5 units but her BG went up in the last half of the interval between shots. (24 hours, only one shot a day)

if he does Rx the insulin, I think I'll divide the dose into two, 12 hours apart. It can't hurt and perhaps I can come down off the ceiling.

If you didn't give insulin tonight, there's no reason you need to stay up and test

No insulin=no chance of going hypo

Get your sleep now...you'll have plenty of chances to have PJ parties later!!

If you track the dosing and the blood glucose test results in a spreadsheet for Dottie you'll have evidence for your vet about her progress. That might help things along.

Hope you get some refreshing sleep, Jeanne. Give Dottie some scritches from me. :bighug:

Jeanne; it's not "lean" but my Mom's cat loves his "burger balls" She freezes hamburger in slider size balls. Then nukes them until they are just warm (not cooked). Toad loves his burger balls.

And there are more: not all the kitties here that have achieved remission are in the Lantus Land role call. (Saoirse's a case in point.)

As were dozens of others on the ProZinc remission thread. I always remember the sage advice I read here once: The best insulin is the one that works for your cat.
